"Cheers" Program or Casino "Drinks on Us"--Choose 1?

Recommended Posts

We just sailed on the Conquest in May. As usual, we opted for the "Cheers" Drink Package. Love to have our cocktails while cruising! We also enjoy spending time in the casino. I managed to get my points up to 1500 and assumed that the "Drinks on Us" while playing in the casino would apply. I told my server about this and she said, "Oh, no, you already have the Cheers Program so you can't do both."

I totally understand if this new policy is to make sure no one gets over 15 drinks per day. On our previous cruise in Jan, I had a card in my cabin the very first day which gave me free drinks in the casino. I was able to use that card in the casino and my "Cheers" card elsewhere. As much as I enjoy my cocktails on the ship, I don't ever get to the max of 15! I'm just wondering if this new practice is on all CCL ships? Also, I think Carn should stop the promotion of "Drinks on Us" if you get to a certain point level without telling people they can't double-dip with "Cheers." I know for certain that some people maybe play a little too heavily in the casino just to get the drink card.

They have been doing this for, over a year now. My last 3 cruises in November, January and March all on the Breeze were Premier casino cruises so the DOU card was, automatic upon embarkation. I did not purchase Cheers for,any of them and my total cost for drinks elsewhere on board was $150 give or take $10 on each cruise, so I'm cool with it. My next cruise is,a 5 day cruise, with no casino offer on the Valor, I purchased Cheers if I qualify for the dou card, oh well . Yes it would be nice to get something else, but no big deal. After that it's an Ultra on the Freedom so no Cheers.

I was recently on the Triumph in May. I had purchased the cheers program. When I reached my points in the casino for dou they gave me 2 steakhouse options for the mdr. A day or so later they delivered chocolate covered strawberries to my room. On the last day I received the bounce back offer for a free cruise.

Yes. I've had that on my 4 day Liberty cruises in 2016 (except bounce back since I had other casino offer cruises booked) also bottle of wine at dinner and bottle of champagne to cabin. They do treat you well and I'm grateful for what I have received but I don't expect any of it and would not be upset if I didnt receive it.

My last few cruises have been freebies (just paid port and taxes) and had casino DOU upon embarkation. I pair that with one bottle of liquor purchased pre-cruise from Fun Shop and that is sufficient to keep me happy the entire cruise. I guess the issue of what's satisfactory depends on how far into your cruise you get to enjoy DOU and what you like to drink. I carry on a few cans of juice and use that with my Fun Shop liquor and find that adequate and much cheaper than Cheers when paired with DOU. I guess that might be different if I didn't have DOU upon boarding the ship.

I don't think pairing DOU with Cheers to determine limits is anything new. In my experience, that limitation has been the case since Cheers came about. One thing is certain though. Nobody adds up your Fun Shop purchase with either DOU nor Cheers. As long as you handle your adult beverages responsibly within those boundaries, you'll have no worries and can enjoy your cruise with a smile on your face. :-)

Hope you find the right combination that satisfies your cruise needs and budget and that allows you to enjoy your cruise responsibly.

I had the DOU last time and still did cheers as well. They never told me I couldn't do both. I still never made it to 15 drinks but I was able to get plenty of water, vitamin water, etc..... without worrying about going over. They even let me order a glass of wine and a bottle of water at the same time without waiting "5 minutes" in between because I had both.

Interesting! I was never offered anything when I got to 1500pts! Except the "NO" to the DOU card!
