Mayan ruins on our own?

Can we get to the Mayan ruins form port using taxi on our own without a cruise excursion?

Which ones are best to visit and how long should we plan? How much are entrance fees and cabby fares?

You probably could but it would be more expensive via taxi and you would have to make sure the driver knows where you want to go and can stay with you to bring you back. The nearest ruins are at least an hour away.

Thank you so much for the info. We did Tulum in Cozumel and hated the long communtes to get there and felt we didnt have time to do anything on our own. and I thought these ruins in Costa Maya were close to port. I dont think we want to do another 1.5 or more drive while in port it seems to take up the day . I do thank you for that website I am looking at the lagoon excursion it look interesting but it also has a long drive to it. Is there not anything nature oriented or historical near the port?

I also agree with Native Choice. It was a drive, but did not feel long (and I had my 7 and 9 year old with us, so it could have felt long!!)

We had 9 adults and 11 kids under 10 in our group. The drive was not bad at all. They stopped for pineapple which was soo good.
