Solo on Disney

Has anyone cruised solo on one of the Disney ships? I have been looking at cruising with them again, but am kind of hesitant since they are so family oriented.

I would love to hear any thoughts.

Thanks.

Unless you're really in love with the Mouse, and with loads of kids, it's probably not the best for a solo. There are so many choices out there, including Disney, and some are more solo friendly than others. For me, a few days at the resort is enough. I just can't see being confined on a ship with nothing but the Mouse and his friends 24/7. But as with all of us, it's your call.

It's sounds like you have cruised on Disney before but if you haven't they have a nice adult only area that they do a good job of policing and keeping adult. This was one of our last cruises and we really enjoyed it in spite of the fact we were there as a senior aged couple. The food and entertainment are first class as is the service.

But if being around a lot of kids bothers you then you might be better off on another cruise line. I would suspect the way the price things that they hit you really bad with a high single supplement.

Good luck in deciding and have a great next cruise whatever you decide.

Thanks everyone for your input. Alot of what was said has been part of my thought process. I think I will just stick with other lines. I am actually going on the Allure the end of March and really excited about it.

Thanks again.

Well, I'm in love with the Mouse and over my very frequent trips to visit the Mouse and in talking to fellow Mouse-fanatics, I've encountered several who've traveled solo on Disney cruise line. And everyone I've talked to who has traveled solo enjoyed it.

The other "problem"with Disney, and it may not be a deal breaker for some, is that there are no casinos. I like to spend time in the casino at night, so not having that really affected my cruise. I'm not big on shows, so a casino was something I missed.

I did Disney solo this past March. I'm not a kid person (never had any. They scare me!) I didn't have any problems. Serenity Cove (no kids beach) was wonderful. There were so few people out there eveyone was talking amongst themselves and it was a party atmoshpere. On the ship itself I notices how the staff was vigilant in keeping kids out of the adult pool area. Prsonally, I'd have no qualms about going solo on Disney again.

I have done 2 solo cruises, 1 DCL and one RCL and I had a much better time on DCL.

I found much more to do on DCL and the adult areas on DCL were so nice and quiet. Movies, shows and entertainers were much better on DCL, and the adult beach on Castaway Cay is almost paradise.

I wanted to try a freedom class and do the Liberty solo out of Barcelona this summer but when I booked, DCL was much less expensive as they only had 160% single supplement and not 200% that RCL has, which made a balcony on DCL less expensive than an inside on the Liberty, and DCL has longer times in the ports, which I think will be good on a Med cruise.

I am going solo on Disney Eastbound Transatlantic in May. There are many solo cruisers and couples. Someone said that last year's TA there was only about 400 kids on the ship.

I have sailed on Disney a few times with my Family. We have also sailed on HAL, RCI,NCL, and Carnival. Disney is my favorite.

I am looking forward to all the ship's activities. Disney offers a lot of things. I have a hard time deciding.

Disney has a first run movie theater. The shows are fantastic. Plus, there is a cabaret show almost every night. i really enjoy the adult areas such as pool, Quiet Cove, and clubs. I like that fact that there in no casino.

I would LOVE a Disney cruise cause I'm a HUGE Disney fan! But, I don't think I'd go solo only because seeing all the kids would remind me of my own 4 little ones and that would make me think about how much they would love it! Ha ha! If you love Disney, I can't imagine not enjoying a Disney cruise :)

Even though it's Disney, it is possible to cruise with them and have very few dealings with children. I've got 7 cruises behind me and (at the moment) 3 cruises ahead of me on Disney, most with friends, a couple solo. I may be booking another solo on Disney if April 6 brings the announcement of some interesting itineraries for the Magic or Wonder. Here's what I've observed with the Magic and Wonder since I'm not sailing on the Dream until October.

Disney has such fantastic kids programs that really you don't see much of the kids onboard. And they are really good at enforcing the 18+ restriction on the adult-only areas. It's not just a pool area -- the specialty restaurants Palo & Remy, the Cove Cafe (and enclosed Outlook Bar expansion on the Wonder), the Vista Spa and health club, and the nightclubs in the evening are all 18+.

Cruise at a time when the kids are still in school. If you're interested in a longer itinerary, you'll have even fewer kids on your cruise. We only had around 300 kids on the Wonder's Panama Canal cruise in January. They even offered adult-only time in the Oceaneer's Lab a few times during that cruise.

Sea days usually offer a singles/solos lunch table hosted by a Cruise Staffer. Additional solo/singles meets may be listed in the Navigator for Cove Cafe and/or Diversions.

There are adult-only activities during the day. Enrichment activities (theming, entertainment, culinary) are complimentary. Various wine/beer/spirits tastings may be offered with a premium. And yes, there are also the ubiquitous Spa infomercial presentations as well.

If you have absolutely no interest in anything Disney-related, DCL might not be a good choice. But if it's only the characters you're not interested in, I would say go for it! Single supplements are usually 175% but I've seen some reductions to around 150% when they're trying to fill a ship. After all, part of what Disney excels at is theming and service. It's not just all about the animated movies.

I appreciate all of the feedback, it has given me alot of food for thought.

Disney just announced their new ports for next year and I think I found the perfect solution. They are sailing out of NY to Canada for 5 days. I have always wanted to do a NE/Canada and this will at least give me a taste of it. I am looking at booking one of these cruises in September.

Yes, many times.

Bahamas

Baltic

Eastern Caribbean

Inaugural Alaskan

L.A. to Vancouver, B.C.

Mexican Rivieria

Southern Caribbean

trans-Atlantic

trans-Panama Canal

Western Caribbean

And at the end of December, hopefully, my first cruise on "The Disney Dream."

So, if you have cruised once on Disney Cruise Lines and enjoyed it, then don't hestitate to cruise with them again. For of all the passengers on a Disney cruise only one third of them are children seventeen and under. The other two thirds are adults. Parents cruising with their children. Grandparents cruising with their grandchildren. Extended family groups. But also alot of adults who either have no children or cruising sans children. Because of their experiences with Disney Cruise Lines have been so pleasurable.

One particular sailing I am checking out is the DCL Wonder Mexican Riviera 7-nights in January/February 2012. Single supplement is 160%. With the 10% discount for onboard booking and including the $200 OBC per stateroom and factoring into the price, total cost + tax for solo is $790, or $113 per diem for the lowest inside cabin. I guess that isn't too bad, or is it?

Disney cruise lines would be my first pick if cruising solo.

They have so many "adult only" designated areas on the ship and on Castaway Cay. Because the kids programs are so amazing, I felt like I saw less kids on my Disney cruise than on my other 6 cruises.

I sailed Disney with my two sons (10 and 13 at the time) BUT as single parent I was alone 90% of the time because the kids were off having so much fun doing their thing.

I attended a couple of the solo/single cruiser lunches and activities. I dined for brunch at Palo's alone...yummy!!!

I spent quite a few hours in the adults only pool conversing with lot's of great folks.

You certainly can not beat the customer service and beauty of the Disney line. I say do it!

Hi. I did a family trip on the Dream in April and am searching right now for a trip solo on the Dream. I loved it! It is the one ship I know I could feel quite comfy on as a solo... Lots of fun things to do and if you don't want to be around kids, make the massive kids pool area off limits... Everywhere else is tolerable and the adults only pool area is perfect. Great Disney movies and entertainment. I had also thought that the day all the families get off to do castaway cay... Thats the day Ill stay on board and enjoy a peaceful day. Whatever you do... Enjoy!

I've never gone solo on DCL, but my sister and I have gone w/o any kids and we've always had a great time. Even though there are a lot of kids on the boat, they keep them occupied so it's not like they're running wild all over the ship.

The last DCL cruise I went on, a lady at our dining table was travelling alone and she had a great time. And not everyone on th cruise has or came with kids.
