Grandma Cruising Posted February 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) We have been in Rio during the Carnaval. We didn’t go to the Carnaval parade, but did get a taxi from our hotel to go to the Ipanema Beach Street Party. It was amazing. As we walked down the street towards the beach we were surrounded by people in all sorts of costumes, including a very tall guy wearing a pink feather bikini, enormous pink high heels and a pink bubbly wig! The street running along the back of the beach was packed. There was a parade led by the Ipanema band and the atmosphere was fantastic. A never to be forgotten experience, and we didn’t feel in any danger at all. Rare travelberlin Posted February 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2018 We were in Rio for Carnaval. At the Sambadrom. It was interesting to experience the way Brazilians celebrate. We were there with Celebrity cruises. Once was good but nothing we would like to repeat. Ivi

cpgrneyes Posted February 20, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2018 We were at Carnaval in 2013 with Azamara, and it was spectacular! The city had no rooms available, and AZ docked right in town. The excursion to the Sambadrome was flawless, easy busses, good seats, returning to the ship every 30 minutes (IIRC). Spent a day at the beach and got caught up in a parade...wonderful memories! I don’t know if I would have gone independently, but on Azamara, it was easy and Azamazing!

cpgrneyes Posted February 20, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 20, 2018 Sure, Bonnie, if you will correct my typo to “buses”!
davwen81 Posted February 21, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2018 We were in Rio for Carnival last year on Celebrity. Booked independent Sombradore tickets with pick up and drop off to the port, excellent value compared to the cruise lines price. Fabulous fabulous night and I’d go back again! Incredible experience. Grandma Gilly Posted February 21, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Visiting the Rio Carnival and the Sambadrome is one of the best experiences of my life. We were fortunate to be on a ship (Celebrity) who included tickets for the carnival and bussed us there and back.
