This sounds like a fun place to go, if I want to buy things, do we need mexican money? If so, do I get some before we set out from home or is there a way to get some when we arrive? Is it better in the morning when it is cool or is there more to see in the afternoon?

Most shops will accept US$ but not all against a good exchange rate. Often the exchange rate will be posted. Of course you can also use an ATM to get Pesos.

Virtually everyone will take dollars or Pesos. The exchange will vary from store to store so I always price it both ways when in PV. Remember you can also use your CC and let your bank do the exchange so if only planning on small things for cash it is probably not worth getting Pesos. Do bring some small bills ones and fives and expect to get change if any in pesos.
