RozWazowski Posted February 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2011 I've read several reports of people complaining of a sewage smell in their cabins ... who has experienced this and what were your cabin numbers? We are supposed to sail in October, but this is a concern of ours.
cb at sea Posted February 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2011 This is a "ship" thing....sometimes, it happens; sometimes it doesn't. It's not relegated to only 1 ship, or only 1 area. If it should happen in your cabin, pour water down the floor/shower drain, and keep your sink drain plugged. If that doesn't help, call maintainence....sometimes it's clogged pipe. Generally, if it happens, it's fairly fleeting. There's really no predicting it. Just because it happened to one cabin, doesn't mean it will still be a problem in a week! ehfl Posted February 20, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2011 This can happen on any ship in any cabin. The most common cause, is some inconsiderate person trying to flush sanitary napkins. This causes the system to backup, and causes the smell in nearby rooms.
RozWazowski Posted February 20, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted February 20, 2011 This is my second cruise and DH first cruise. I know the ship has some problems with it last and current sailings, it happens ... but if it smells like sewage my poor DH will never sail again :( Thanks for your post, I'll try to remember that if it happens. dixieva Posted February 20, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2011 This has happened to me on every cruise ship I have sailed on regardless of which cruise line. It's been rare that I smelled it in my room but I've noticed it around the ship many times. I'm still cruising though! Not important enough to ruin my cruise. kevinandrenay Posted February 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2011 It has happened on almost every cruise we have been on. We were on Enchantment 2-7 to 2-19 in cabin 3047. Never noticed any bad smell in the cabin but did notice a little smell at the gangway.
twinmommy08 Posted February 20, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2011 I agree with most, you tend to smell it at some point on the cruise regardless which cruise line or ship you're on. I never had an issue in my room (8032) but caught a breeze of it walking on the lower decks outside. What do people expect? You have thousands of people going #2 everyday and it doesn't get dumped in the ocean. I'm personally surprised it doesn't sink more than it does! I'd hate to be the one responsible for the "poop deck" lol sorry, I can't help myself

barefoot cruiser Posted February 20, 2011 #12 Share Posted February 20, 2011 When I was on the enchantment 01/08/11, it seemed that the mid-section deck 2, 3, and ,to a lesser degree, 4 hallways on the port side had a gag inducing smell...I learned to reroute to not go through those hallways. I was glad not to have my room in that area.
RozWazowski Posted February 21, 2011 Author #13 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Hopefully we won't experience it. We are deck four mid ship on starboard so maybe we'll luck out. otherwise we'll pack a tent and camp out on deck lol

We are deck four mid ship on starboard so maybe we'll luck out. otherwise we'll pack a tent and camp out on deck lol We were on deck four, starboard, a bit more forward than you (near the forward elevators) for the 1/29 sailing and didn't have a problem. We noticed the smell most around the gangway sometimes and occasionally when outside on deck five port.
hpreece Posted February 21, 2011 #15 Share Posted February 21, 2011 I've smelled this on every ship that I've been on....even a brand new ship. Never in our room though. I was thinking that it could be coming from where they store garbage and host of other reasons.
