I don't buy the soda card but I overheard one of the crew directing people to the soda card stand to wait till we leave port as you won't be charged the sales tax.

It is just what I heard, can't confirm or deny

We were on the Splendor last month. All drinks (including Drink of the Day) purchased while docked where charged LA sales tax. I think it was over 10% but not sure.

Long Beach's sales tax is 9.75%. Close enough to 10% and reason enough to wait til after the ship leaves. All drinks and soda cards are taxed while docked. -Voice of Experience.

Not sure where you heard those exact numbers, but they seem a little inflated. If they really charged $28 for a $20 bucket that would be a 40% mark up!

However, the idea that you should wait to purchase until you leave the port area is correct. You'll save on the sales tax that way.
