Rio de Janeiro apartment hotel

I need recommendation for an apartment or apartment/hotel (with kitchenette) for 5 nights in March '10 (we're cruising on the Star Princess Rio to Fort Lauderdale). Close to Ipanema but does not have to be on the beach. We are frugal travelers, luxury is nice but not necessary. We're thinking of spending in the neighborhood of $120-$140 a night. Is it realistic? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can get a rental at these prices assuming this isn't at Carnival time. You will be hard pressed to get something on the beach but not a block or two off. My suggestion is that you try looking up some sites that specialize in making short term rentals on Google.
