Planning 14 day Alaska Cruise with land tour

We are in early stages of planning for a 14 day Alaskan Cruise. 7 day land and then 7 day cruise. Where will I find excursion information for the land tour portion? Am particularly interested in approximate costs involved for the excursions. Any information, even if outdated would be helpful!:)

We just did a 15 day; 8 land, 7 ship. Ours was escorted, so we didn't pay extra for anything. You will not get the individual tour prices until you get your final docs. I wasn't going to need them, so they got tossed immediately.

I would look into the escorted tour vs. just the one w/o excursions and meals. The prices are really high in Alaska and sometimes having all inclusive becomes a whole lot more cost effective.

Thanks Pia! If you don't mind what was the price for your escorted tour?

Sorry. This is not something we can discuss on CC. Besides which, it all depends on how and with whom you book and your geographic area. I booked with Princess and watched the prices come down. When we were close to final payment date, I turned it over to a TA and got a better price. One thing I can tell you is that the escorted cruisetours fill up immediately. In our case, one tour, 36 people. No other bus.

we have done a similar cruisetour with Princess. It was a wonderful experience. They kept us very busy during the land portion....you will be glad to slow down a bit on the cruise portion. We saw so much during our land tour, we scheduled less once on the ship, and did our own thing.

I would try to do a longer tour that stays in the lodges more than one night each-you feel as if you are always packing, getting up early and setting your luggage out when the stays are only one night. It is especially important to pick a tour that stays in Denali long enough to do the day long tour in the park-if your stay is only one night, as many are, there isn;t enough time.

Our cruisetour was fun and a very good intro to Alaska, but next time we will just fly in and rent a car and do the land on our own (which many folks on the Alaska boards highly suggest!!).

As you probably know Alaska can get expensive or if you don't know you will find out.

I can see the merritts of doing an organized tour and an escorted their both great and some one else does the driving. Expensive either way.

You know it is also possible to do your own land tour and probably save a bunch. We did our own this past season and loved it.

In either case you will get IMO better information on either on the Alaska board.
