Playing slots for free on HAL

I don't understand why the casino has any more right to the lost money then anyone else. I don't see it as stealing in any case as the people chose to walk away and leave it on the machine. If they cared about it they could have asked for help. Do you really think that the casino takes the time to try to return the money? I really doubt it.

Please read post #21. The OP spent and took money that did not belong to him, and that is theft. Just because you "find" something that does not make it your property!

The system does sound a bit confusing, to me. But new things can be confusing...

Some years ago, I took my daughter on a cruise and suggested she try the casino for fun (she'd just turned 21). The slot machines used tokens. Her previous experience with tokens was Chuck E. Cheese. So a few hours later she returns to the cabin and tells me that it took forever but she finally managed to use up all her tokens. She didn't realize they represented money that she was winning and losing -- she thought they were only good for "playing" and worthless otherwise.

We had a good laugh. :)

I agree!!

Really?!?!! If you found a $10.00 bill on the ground how long would you stand there asking people if it were their $10.00?

I have seen machines left with money on them, usually not enough to run all the lines or even enough for one credit, if I stick my card in and start playing those machines, I am stealing? Really? Who am I steaking from? The people who left the $$ in the machine or the casino? Is someone going to come back and say, "Hey, thats my $.25 that I left in that machine, stop theif!!"??

What about that saying...."Finders Keepers..........."

I never knew that a stool leaned against a machine meant it was taken. Why in the world would someone leave money in a machine that is readily accessable by anyone? Thats like me leaving my wallet sitting on the stool, hoping that it will be there when I get back, Im not willing to take that chance.

Isnt that a little like a lounge chair hog out at the pool, I can understand running to the rest room, but grabbing a bite to eat or going to a show and expecting the machine not to be used by anyone else, isnt that alittle selfish?

Now dont get me wrong, I believe in Karma, but I seriously doubt that most people would pass up found money, the holier than thou attitude is a sin too ya know

Flame away:D

I only played a couple of hands of Texas Hold Em on the last cruise, and not the slots and had a small balance. The casino called me the last night to come get my refund.

Just out of curiousity, can you open a casino account for one day, close it out and then reopen the account later in the cruise? And if so, can you do this every day? We like to keep an eye on our finances.

Thanks in advance...

It's not true. Finding something does not make it your property. People have been prosecuted and convicted for spending bags of money found on the street. Admittedly, for a $10 bill lying on a sidewalk, with no way of identfying the true owner, no one will make a big deal out it.

However, money left unclaimed on a slot machine belongs to the ship. Transferring credits from a slot machine to your own card, and then collecting that money at the cage, is really no different in principle than reaching into the cage and grabbing a handful of money.

Yes, you can cash out every day ... or every time you play ... and put in new money when you want to play again. It's not really like opening and closing an account.

  • 3 weeks later...

We will be sailing on Hal for the first time next week, and we are a little confused after reading about the slots. My question is, if everybody in a cabin in on one account, how does the credits go back on their cards? Does in go into one account, or does everybody have a seperate account? Can you put cash into a machine or do you have to set up an account with credit before you can play? Can someone walk me though the entire process. Thanks. Never thought I would have to ask how to play slots. YIKES...what next.

LOL, thanks Rich. Nothing like getting flamed on my very first post. I think I will like it here.:) People here on not afraid to say what they think.

Ok, I have to agree with you here. Let's say you walk into a bar and go to put money in a jukebox (do they still have those??) and there is still money in there would you go the bar and report it our would you play some songs and use the balance of the money in there. If you say it's not the same thing well why wouldn't it be. Maybe to a lesser degree but if you say the OP was stealing so would this be. Wouldn't it be the bar's money? The problem is you don't know the other person's intent. I just believe in the glass houses thing so I think we need to cut the OP a break.

Goldengreeke,

If I leave credits on a machine and I'm gone for 20 minutes I hope that someone does play them.

I hope the self-righteous people on here never use minutes on someone's parking meter in case they are coming back. Yes, it is basically the same thing. You are "stealing" from the city, aren't you?

The more important issue here is the fact that the ships going to the cards also increases the chances of people losing too much money at the casinos - to the ship's advantage. Gone is the simple plan of heading to the casino with a $20 so you don't over spend.

Thanks for the support, guys. You both made good points. I hope none of the self righteous that bashed me never rented a video and after watching it, let their kids or neighbors watch it before they returned it. They are robbing the video store and will surely burn in Hell.

I think the reason other posters criticized you is because in your OP you seem to infer that it became your goal to find as many machines with credits on them and pocket the money as opposed to sitting down to one machine and finding some credits on it. JMO

Exactly... and that makes all the difference...IMO....

Also, if the amounts had not been too relevant on the machines, and you pointed it out to a slot attendant, they most likely would have told you just to play them off...

And also to point out... I personally never said the original poster was "stealing" or was a "thief".... I merely pointed out the technical term a casino uses when players take money that does not belong to them.

Live and let live...to each their own... whatever...;)

That wasn't my goal. Every cruiser knows that the slots are tighter than Hell. I kept moving around trying to find a good one. Just happened that every other machine I went to had credits left on it.

Goldengreeke...

I seriously wouldn't worry about... IMO... you didn't do anything that other people haven't done before.... ;)

I think you know now the better route is to bring it to the attention of a slot attendant if the amount is substantial... by substantial, I mean $20 and over... anything less... they usually let the next person play them off..I cannot say 100% if these are the ships rules.. I have no knowledge on that.

From experience... on a daily basis I see credits/cash/tickets returned to the person who left the machine, for whatever reason... and they were beyond grateful that they got their money back..:D

But at least now you are informed how the casino looks at this type of situation, so kick back, relax and enjoy your next casino visit... and as I say to all my patrons.. "good luck and show it who's boss" :p

It was a real a mess that first night. A man about 65 tried to cash out his machine. A close by attendant explained how he was to transfer it back on to his players card. This guy raised Hell. He said I put $20 cash in this machine and I want $20 CASH back!! He got real loud, told the attendant that HAL can stick the machine and the whole casino up their ass, tipped over his chair, hit the machine with his fist and stormed out. The attendant shook his head and went to help another player, the $20 in credits remained on the machine.

He didn't deserve the credits after that tantrum.

Either way:)

Thanks! For the record, if I walked up to a slot machine that had credits on it, I would absolutely play them off. I guess everyone has their own opinion on this sort of thing, but mine is that those credits have been abandoned since they have been left by their rightful owner. They certainly dont belong to HAL any more than they belong to anyone else. So, I would play them off. Thats just my take.

I would like to put my 2 cents in (but afraid someone might steal it), however, what are you suppose to do if you want to play a particular machine that does have credits left on the machine. Call the slot attendent and have them remove the credits? Play the machine and play it down to the orginal credits on the machine? Cash the credits out and bring them to the cashier(leave a chair leaning against the machine so when you come back from the cashier the machine will still be available)? It is a no win situation. On our last cruise my wife "found" $138 in credit on a machine and cashed them out. We did put them all back in other machines during the cruise so the casino did get to keep all those credits afterall.
