cruzfvr Posted November 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2009 We will be taking the regional train from Civitavecchia station into Roma S. Pietro station. Then we want to go to the other sites and end up at the Colosseum area. Does anyone know how we can get to the Pietro station from here? Is there a specific bus, or do we need to get a taxi? We are trying to avoid going to the main Termini station for the return trip. Thanks!
euro cruiser Posted November 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2009 There is a much simpler and faster solution. From the Colosseum, take the metro (entrance is located across Via dei Fori Imperiali from the Colosseum) two stops southbound (in the direction of Laurentina) to Piramide. Exit the metro here and follow the trenitalia signs to Ostiense station and take the regional train from there to Civitavecchia. The BIRG ticket (9 Euro each) will cover your round trip train transportation as well as the buses and metro in Rome for 24 hours.
dfwguy62 Posted November 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2009 I would consider getting on the Metro (subway) at the Colisseum station (it's right beside it) and riding the "B" line for 2 stops to the Piramide stop. The Piramide stop is connected to the Ostiense train station. You can walk from one to the other by a relatively short tunnel or above ground. It's maybe a 100yd walk. This way you don't have to go into the Termini station, but you also don't need to navigate back to San Pietro station. If you're using the BIRG ticket to get into Rome from Civitavecchia, it's also good on the Metro train, so there's no additional cost to you. You would want to make sure you know which trains actually stop at Ostiense on their way back to Civitavecchia.
cruzfvr Posted November 16, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted November 16, 2009 Thank you both for your replies. Sounds so much easier than going all the way back to San Pietro station.
Budget Queen Posted November 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2009 Another factor to consider however, with not using the Termini station is, very limited/no seats left on the train. This is especially true on cruiseship days. People were going up and down the aisles repeatively looking for seats, bypassing the single seats, ended up some people had to stand. Be willing to take any seat.
