Down South Cruiser Posted December 15, 2009 #26 Share Posted December 15, 2009 Since Sue brought it up, I am very anxious to learn about the late night entertainment on Princess ships. Musical entertainment in particular. I was on the Freedom of the Seas last month & even with over 3600 passengers on board, the entertainment was shutting shortly after 1:00 am on most nights. Bars & lounges that were 2/3 or more full became mostly vacant as soon the entertainment stopped playing. Some folks would go to the casino or down to the Promenade for a late night snack but most seem to head for the cabins. The disco was usually open but that is not my kind of music. Just from a business standpoint, they could continue to sell drinks if they would keep a band, piano player, or guitar player going a bit longer. Does Princess do a better job with late night entertainment?
asctony Posted December 15, 2009 #27 Share Posted December 15, 2009 Princess past passengers benefits are outstanding, we are only 5 cruises away from the Elite level offering private breakfast in Sabitini's (free of charge) and free laundry service (YES!). The benefits at the Platinum level are also very nice, especially the dis-embarkation lounge (HEAVEN!) Personally Princess and Celebrity are much closer matches now, RCI is more on par with Carnival these days. The RCL of the 70's and 80's is gone. I must have missed out on the Private Breakfast in Sabitini's. We are Elite and have never seen this???? Happy Cruising!!

caribill Posted December 16, 2009 #29 Share Posted December 16, 2009 That's good to know. It seems like such a trivial thing but I have missed seeing them on the pillow. I also think it is a little funny seeing them get collected at customs. Come on people you can hide them a little better than that. :) No need to hide. We put them on our customs declaration and have never been asked to give them up. Customs is really looking for fruit and meat products.
Rare taxatty Posted December 16, 2009 #30 Share Posted December 16, 2009 We've done 7 on Princess (#8 shortly) and 6 on RCI, with 2 on Celebrity (once in the Galapagos, an unfair apple to orange comparison). Until our last cruise on the Emerald last summer, Princess' MDR food was always significantly better--not so on that one--only OK (Crown Grill and Chef's Table were both awesome). On our last cruise on the Majesty (not exactly the pride of RCI), the MDR food had improved to at least match Princess, which was a big surprise. Celebrity to us had better food than both. Pretty much everything else on the RCI and Princess ships we have been on was very similar, although we actually prefer Princess' entertainment and ship decor, which for us was WAY better than Celebrity. We'd be happy on any of them, and book based upon itinerary and price. Les

Customs is really looking for fruit and meat products. Maybe the ones I have seen are from people that were so afraid they were doing something wrong that they just gave them up. asctony Posted December 16, 2009 #32 Share Posted December 16, 2009 Just for those in full suites. That is what I thought, too. So, Elite has no bearing. Thanks!
