Kon Tiki or Blue Bay Beach?

We will be in Curcao next month and can't decide between Kon Tiki or Blue Bay beach. Have read good reviewas about both.

We would be looking for a sandy beach (no coral), restrooms and lounge chair rental.

Just want a good, pretty beach to spend the day relaxing.

Port Mare (?) has gotten good reviews but we don't want to travel that far.

We've narrowed it down to these two and would appreciate any info about these beaches that will help us make up our minds.

Thank you,

Karen

Kon Tiki is really nice and relaxing, not very crowded and has a nice atmosphere with relaxing music playing. If I remember correctly, the beach was sandy but once you get in the water there are a lot of shells to walk through.

They had lounge chairs as well as cushioned platforms (like a double bed on the beach).

This is a great relaxing beach and having to walk through the shells is off set by everything else.

We spent the day at Blue Bay Beach and had a fine time. The beach has plenty of lounge chairs and shade areas. The swimming area was good. There is a nice pool to swim in after going in the salt water. There are all of the amenities one needs- plus the snorkeling is quite good.

Blue Bay Beach looks nice. Did you have to purchase a day pass to swim in their pool? Are there restaurants for lunch, drinks?

Blue Bay is Awesome. All beaches have a little coral in Curacao. the Island is made of Coral. (FYI) Blue Bay has a little area that reaches out into the cove that that has a umbrella and Chairs with awesome thick cushions. they charge to use the area, but it is about $7.00 (15. guilders) but they give you a rum punch and will be at your service. Nice cold towel on your departure. Love that area. It is a great snorkel and dive area also. Great food at the bar also. Porto Marie is cool too. Their beach has a little coral as all beaches do, but the water is cooler there than any beach on the south side of the island. they have a nice bar and serves great food and cold beverages. Also, most beaches charge to use their beach and rent the chairs but they are fair amounts. Another beach closer to where the cruise ship ports is Holiday Beach. Smaller beach than Blue Bay or Porto Marie, but clean as most beaches are and they do not charge you to use their beach or chairs. It is the home of US military working on the Island, so you feel really safe with the bunch of "folks from Home" They also make the best Peach daquairis (?) on the Island.they also have good food, but the view from any beach is beautiful.All of the above mentioned beaches are great for snorkeling and diving and all of them have dive shops on the beaches. Kon Tiki is OK, as it is part of Mambo beach and topless girls are a norm there. Parts of Kon Tiki are under construction so be careful...but Enjoy!!!

Do you know about how far Blue Bay is from the port? We would be taking a cab.

TIA,

Karen

it is about 10 miles, in a round about way. There is an entrance charge to use their beach, but it is minimal. the diving and snorkeling is great.

are there shells at blue bay?

more coral than shells. you can go without water shoes at Blue Bay, just be careful where you walk and you will be fine. Water is clear. great snorkeling area.

Both of these look good to me (Kontiki maybe a bit better?). Can anyone elaborate on some of the costs:

-cab fare to each;

-entrance fee;

-cost of chair;

-drink costs?

-cost to use pool at Blue Bay facility;

We are going with our 7 year old son so if one offers more kid fun/friendly options, I'd like to know that as well!
