Bringing Wine Aboard?

I'm planning to book a cruise at the end of the month. My understanding with Carnival has always been that passengers are not allowed to bring alcohol aboard ship for consumption in thier staterooms. If you've wanted to bring alcohol aboard you needed to smuggle it in. I have a couple friends, however, who travel only on Princess several times a year and they claim that Princess, which is owned by Carnival, allows them to bring a few bottles of wine aboard in packed luggage. The number of bottles limited is determined by the amount of days aboard ship supposedly. I haven't researched the alcohol policey since I sailed two years ago but I assume it isn't any different. So my question is, is this policy on wine strictly a Princess policy or does Carnival allow a certain number of bottles of wine aboard in packed luggage and I've just overlooked the exemption? OR are my friends breaking the rules repeatedly and just lucky not to get caught? :) Thanks!

Carnival allows 1 (750ml) bottle of wine or champagne in your carry on luggage day of embarkation only for each passenger over 21.

Not too much research involved, and it isn't too difficult to find on Carnival's website...

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring on board one bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, per person, only in their carry-on luggage. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the main dining room; $14 corkage fee per bottle in the steakhouse. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages. All prohibited alcohol, excessive quantities of wine/champagne or non-alcoholic beverages will be removed and stored for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. The retained item(s) will be delivered to your stateroom on the last night of the cruise. Unsealed containers with prohibited liquids will be discarded, as well as any unclaimed items left after the voyage, and no compensation will be given in either case.

Just put it in your carry-on.

I also recommend checking out their wine packages. I didn't even know these existed until just before my latest cruise.
