First Time on Celebrity

Jerry and Shelly

Recommended Posts

We have been on a several cruises in the past, mostly Carnival - the last one on the Triumph, and once each on Disney, NCL, and Premier. This will be our first cruise on Celebrity; we are going on the Solstice later this year.

We have read many positive, but also many negative things about the Solstice. We try very hard to just focus on having a good time when we travel and not be bothered by little things that might not be perfect.

With that said, can anyone who has recently sailed on both Carnival and Celebrity give us a comparison? We are in our mid-50's and like to stay active and party a little. It seems that Celebrity is not as active as Carnival. Is the entertainment on par? How about the food? We appreciate the classier touches that Celebrity offers; we just hope that it doen't tend to be boring compared to Carnival (from what we have read.)

Thanks for any thoughts or ideas that you may have.

WELCOME to Cruise Critic!

Celebrity we have cruised on since the Greeks sold it and was created then bought by RCL :NYSE for use of going to the Bermudian Islands ( Somers Isles ) and having a needed UpScale line.

Well since the new (current ) administration/officers came in only a few years ago they became Penny Counters and as you know the adage Penny Wise and Pound Foolish...

It used to be the Top Commercial Cruise Line in Culinary Delights as well Presentations. We used to pang like a pangolin when we were doing to the MDR (Main Dining Room) they used to have Professional Waiters. Yes it is a respected Profession.

Now ..well lets say it does need a wee bit of improvements again..

Carnival CCL/CUK :NYSE/LSE

Both Parent Lines do have a Shareholders Benefit of OBC ( On Board Credit )

They have actually gone up in quality of services and the culinary area.

But on any ship of any line IMHO it is the Hotman (Hotel Manager ) which is the second in command of all staff etc..aboard under the master ( Captain ) and in such runs the inner workings.. some well some not as well..

So take each cruise without a preconceived view too.

Make each ship a separate trip...

On social sides it is like in life liberty and the pursuit of happiness , love and all ..WHAT WE MAKE OF IT..;)

Carnival and Celebrity are very distinctly different cruise experiences. Celebrity cruises are known to be a bit more sedate and upscale, but by no means boring. It's just that you won't find the glitz, neon Las Vegas type ships with all the various activities that you see on Carnival. Not nearly the amount of pool games and things like that.

While Carnival has really polished up their party hearty image and have improved things like their food, I feel they are still a notch below the likes of Celebrity, HAL and Princess.
