ROMEOANDJULIET91 Posted April 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2010 This is my 2nd cruise and the 1st one was booked with locals not with the ship (and we tipped them). Just want to make sure I am comparing "apples" to "apples". ;)

NCTribeFan Posted April 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2010 I'm not sure why booking through the cruiseline would be different from booking independently (other than you're going to pay a alot more through the cruiseline). Unfortunately, that extra money goes in the cruiseline's pockets, not the operators. I tip depending on the service. The ones who push for tips get less from me than the ones who do their jobs and don't stick a tip bucket in my face. The operators on the ship excursions aren't cruiseline employees - they're independent contractors.
cv322 Posted April 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We tip regardless of with whom we book the excursion.
Putterdude Posted April 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We always tip, something in the order of $5 for a half day excursion and $10 for a full day. If there is a driver as well as a tour guide a tip of a couple of dollars to the driver is appreciated.
