Best Way to See Eze in an Afternoon?

Eze is a relatively small and quite compact village. The only way to see Eze is by walking and its possible to walk through the entire town in a couple of hours. The amount of time you need to visit is dependent on how many shops and galleries you visit and whether you decide to have lunch. You can get to Eze Village by taking a local bus from Monte Carlo (Bus # 112) or using a taxi (this is expensive and will probably cost about 40 Euros each way). The 112 bus runs at irregular intervals and does require some planning. You can find the timetable at:

Agree with Hank that Eze is very small and compact, easy to see and explore. Here are some of my notes on Eze, plus a couple of picture samples below on the views we enjoyed there. We were doing a land trip and had a car, parking right in front of the main entrance. Eze is easy!!!

My notes: The old village of Eze, along the coast between Nice and Monaco, hangs up in the mountains above the water and crowds. It's wonderful to visit. Great, great views! Totally charming! Have lunch or dinner there at one of the two great eating places and feel like you're sitting on the edge of paradise! We ate at the Château Eza. Its website: http://www.chateauezarestaurant.com. At 1,407 feet above the Mediterranean, Eze offers commanding views of cliffs, sea, sprawling estates and off-shore islands. The village's narrow streets or more really paths among the buildings lead to the Jardin Exotique It is a maze of paths flanked by mammoth flowering plants and spiky cactuses. For about $3, you can walk up to the best view on the French Riviera. On a clear day, you can see Corsica! It does not get much better than Eze. Their tourism office:

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

The charming mountain top village of Eze offers great view along the coast:

Using Hank's link to the bus route, I was easily able to find this information for the #112 stops in Eze Village. But I have a few questions....

EZE - Village 09:20 11:00 12:50 14:35 16:30 18:35

My sister and family were planning to take the morning train to Monaco/Monte Carlo. They would do a little sight seeing there and then pick up the bus to Eze at the Gardens by the Casino.

What is that stop called? I'm trying to give them the bus times for the ride to Eze.

For the return to the ship from Eze, should they take the 16:30 from Eze Village to Eze Board du Mer. I see 5 different EZE stops for the #100 (none called Eze Board du Mer). Which is the correct transfer to get back to Villefranche? Or should they go back to Monte Carlo and get back on the train??

We have never been able to understand the bus stop names since most of these stops are simply along a road or on a corner. But the #100 bus stop for the Eze/Bord sur Mer train station is listed as Eze-Gare SNCF Eze. Keep in mind that the timetables are not exact since traffic really dictates the schedule. We do not know the bus stop names in Monte Carlo but perhaps somebody else can help.

Hank,

Thanks for the great info. Do you know the name of the bus stop at the port? We are planning to take the #100 bus to Nice from the port in Monaco. Also, do you know how to get back to Monte Carlo from Nice? We plan to do some sightseeing in Monte Carlo after we visit Nice. Is this the best use of time, or should we try to make it to Eze? We have 11 hours in port. Our other option is to get a private tour, but it doesn't sound as though that is necessary.

Thanks!

Does anyone know exactly where you catch the 112 bus in Monte Carlo to go to Eze.

I have the schedule, but the map shows Cremaillere to be in a different place than the other bus stops. The bus website also shows the return bus ends in Roqueville, where is this please? Using Google maps is of no help for me.

Also there is something mentioned on the boards that the return 112 bus boards in a different place than where it leaves you off in Eze Village?

Thanks,

Hi Bruce,

This Tripadvisor thread should be of help re la Cremaillere stop: http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowTopic-g190409-i679-k2608148-Monte_carlo_to_eze-Monte_Carlo.html

On this map, you'll find Blvd Princess Charlotte at #10 (uphill from both the casino and TI office): http://www.frommers.com/images/destinations/maps/jpg-2006/149_monacoattractions.jpg

In Eze Village there is one main bus stop, right at the base of the village. We arrived on Bus #83 and left on Bus #112 - both at the same stop. The bus line's website shows several Eze stops, but only one for Eze Village. You'll find the maps in the small box to the right of the stop name: http://www.lignedazur.com/horaires_ligne/?rub_code=6&lign_id=1093&part_id=%PARTNER%&thm_id=0

p.s. Here's another Tripadvisor thread which discusses Roqueville stop (post #5): http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187234-i138-k2522161-Need_Suggestion_for_Nice_Monaco_Monte_Carlo_Eze_Please-Nice_French_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence.html
