imru12 Posted May 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Just wondering what anyone used when buying wine on their cruise. I'm not sure if I should buy the wine mummy or just bring bubble wrap.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks:D
NCTribeFan Posted May 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Are you talking about taking a bottle on board at embarkation or purchasing wine in port and taking it back on the ship? I have signatures turned off so dont know if you have one or what cruiseline you're on. Carnival allows each adult to carry on 1 750 ml bottle at embarkation only. Many other lines don't allow ANY alcohol to be brought on the ship at embarkation. ALL alcohol purchased in port has to be turned in when you reboard and is delivered to your cabin the last night since it all counts toward your customs limit. Alcohol purchased on the ship is kept until that last night also. So I'm not sure why you would need anything for packing wine.
RUBBER DUCK Posted May 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Looking from your location, I would say you're driving to port, so I would't think you would need any extra packing other than for in your vehicle. When the ship holds onto your bottles, they're kept secure.
imru12 Posted May 4, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted May 4, 2010 I should of been a little clearer.I'm will be on the jade and it's so I can pack it for the flight home:confused:
FoolishMe Posted May 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2010 I should of been a little clearer.I'm will be on the jade and it's so I can pack it for the flight home:confused: I have some wine directly shipped to me (wine club) - I use the interior packaging container - either syrofoam or cardboard based - with bungee cords for packing it in my checked luggage when I travel. The bungee cords allow the inspectors to see what's inside and re-secure (which they couldn't do if I just taped it). It's worked lovely before. The other thing to consider is to have it shipped directly to your hotel (before the cruise) or directly to your home (bought on the cruise) & avoid having to fly with it. Assuming you would be shipping to a state that allows direct shipment of wine. Good luck
FoolishMe Posted May 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2010 One more thought... If you don't have the interior shipping stuff - check with your local wine shop. I bet that they would have some that they would give you.
