fsdj1097 Posted January 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2005 We will be in Ketchikan on May 24th only from 2-8 pm. Want to try some salmon or halibut fishing. Have emailed Northern Lights and they say it's do-able for either. What has been your experience for either species during this time of year? Is it worth the effort/expense for 5 hours? Our other options are Skagway from 7am - 9pm, or Juneau from 3 - 10pm. Thanks for your reply. Sam

Yukon Posted February 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I haven't fished from Ketchikan, but those in the know say that salmon will be poor in late May, halibut decent. Ketchikan is a better bet than Juneau, and Skagway is just not very good for fishing - Skagwegians generally go elsewhere to fish (it's due to the very murky water in the upper Lynn Canal - fish don't like it). Don't expect world-class fishing, but I'd say that you'll definitely enjoy the experience. Murray
fsdj1097 Posted February 9, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 9, 2005 We're talking with Capt. Larry who has some contacts in Ketchikan. Also visited with Northern Lights. Knew that you'd give us the straight skinny!
