Booked my first RCL cruise on the Voyager...very excited.

Recommended Posts

Just booked my first RCL cruise on the Voyager of the seas on it’s maiden cruise out of new Orleans. I have only cruised Carnival (7 times) so I am a RCL virgin. I have been waiting a long time for RCL to come to new Orleans with their Voyager class ship. Nov. 12 2011 cannot come soon enough. We booked three hump balconies on the 7th floor and two insides. I just wished RCL could change up Jamaica with any other W. Caribbean islands.

Welcome to Royal Caribbean - the only cruise line I have ever cruised, and the only one I will continue to cruise!

As far as Jamaica - rest assured, I think you'll enjoy it...don't let that be a damper on your upcoming cruise. I have spent much time in Jamaica doing mission work, and I think it's a beautiful island with beautiful people. Sometimes, its reputation can be worse than reality. ;)

I hope you have a wonderful cruise! :)

I just did the 7 day western on the Triumph last week (out of N.O.) ..people got a 4 star hotel on hotwire for as little as $66 in the French Qtr. Doesn't matter french qtr or downtown to me, downtown is only a few blocks off french qtr.

If you want to stay for a whole week, Id consider hotwire ... and you can look on betterbidding for which hotel it is.

Dont forget to get pralines to bring home. Im still enjoying mine.

I am not meaning to be negative; but if the OP had your attitude, the OP would never discover the joy of the Voyager and RCCL; meaning they were willing to try new things.

I was also a tru blue Carnival "funnel-head', but I tried out Royal, just to see what YOU folks were glowing about. I'm so glad I did; did 3 in a row...went back to CCL...did an NCL (suprisingly good)..I never switched because I was upset with another cruiseline....heck...these cruises...ALL of them are...the WORST of them are GREAT; but I went with the "variety is the spice....". OK, I just re-read, and it sounds like being preachy when you were just welcoming a new RCI cruiser.........I'll leave quietly now...

Have to admit, back when we started cruising, we did not have a lot of money and Carnival was the most affordable line for us. We have always had fun because how can you not when you are cruising right? As we become financially sound, there are added costs for our girls (4 yr cruised twice and 2 yr once) to cruise with us. Carnival again made sense. Also, when flying to destinations like Puerto Rico (2), Miami (2), and Orlando, there are added flight costs. I have always wanted to try one of RCL’s mega ships and now finally they are sending a Voyager class here to new Orleans. My third girl will be a 1.5 years old when we board the voyager so we are excited about that.

You guys are right about Jamaica, it is a beautiful island and there is plenty to see. I did the Dunn’s river climb and had a blast my one time I was there.

Triumph is almost as large as Conquest class, so its a big ship, if you like big ships. No pay venue for dinner though. The 7 day to Belize and Roatan we had a awesome time. Triumph does one 4 day, two 5 days, then one 7 day Eastern and one 7 day Western and then starts the rotation again... so a short cruise may or may not work out ...

... but rumor is New Orleans might get Conquest, assuming Galveston gets Magic... so by that time you may have a different ship to choose from. We are all wondering why it is taking Carnival so long to announce the next year's sailings for that period.

Voyager though was WOW, the dining room is 3 stories, and we loved the promenade area, even the casino is beautiful. Its just a beautiful ship. I tell myself Im not buying the ship, though I do think RCL is more beautiful, Id do any ship thats convenient.
