gazingm42 Posted June 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2010 We will be visiting Grand Cayman in 3 weeks. We want to go to the turtle farm and onto the beach. We have heard the lagoon and pools need help of being clean. So we want to taxi/bus over in the AM. See the turtle farm again and then on the beach. How far is a nice public beach from the farm? Walkable? Taxi/bus? Thanks
LunaSeaRetreat Posted June 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Sorry I can't help you, but we were planning on going to the turtle farm in November. If you go, would you please report back here and let me know how it was? I hope some one else can help you. Thanks Cynthia
gazingm42 Posted June 7, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 7, 2010 We have elected not to go to the turtle farm. We have read many reviews on the condition and lack of cleanest at the turtle farm. I know turtles are a dirty animal. I also know they can carry many types of dangerous bacteria. We elected to do other activies in fear of our kids getting sick while on the cruise. LunaSeaRetreat Posted June 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks for the input. Unless I hear differently, we will probably go to the beach. Cynthia
kiahuna Posted June 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2010 We just returned from our wonderful cruise today! At Grand Cayman we visited the Turtle Farm and Cemetary Beach by public bus. The bus is like an extended van that holds about 14 people. It cost 2.50 US pp each trip. You can take the yellow or green bus (1 or 2) to the turtle farm then afterwards get dropped off at one of the beaches then to the port. The turtle farm was not dirty and the turtles were well taken care of. It was interesting seeing the different sizes from babies to breeding giants. Cemetary beach was beautiful, had good snorkeling and shade. The other beaches on the way back looked beautiful too. Hope this helps.
092306 Posted June 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2010 I won't know about the beach, but the turtle farm was great. We saw different size turtles and I got to hold one.Turtles were clean, as was the farm itself. It was ALOT of fun. We did the turtle farm through Carnival. I think it was the BEST OF GRAND CAYMEN tour. We never been to GC before.
nybumpkin Posted June 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2010 We did the "Turtles, Turtles and More Turtles" excursion through Carnival. We opted for the ship tour because the price and timing worked out to virtually the same as if we did it on our own. We thought the turtle farm was a lot of fun and very clean, although we did not swim in the lagoon (my sons LOVED the swimming pool with waterfall). A few photos... Fergus Posted June 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2010 We've been to the turtle farm before (which I definitely don't remember as being dirty) and now it appears they've built up a "park" type thing around it with a lagoon and large swimming pool.........anyone done this? Does it look like the type of place you could spend the better part of a day with teens? I don't remember there being an actual beach right there...?? Are there places at Cemetary Beach to get food/drinks? Or closeby? Thanks in advance - trying to plan a day at GC in August and needing ideas, so this thread has been very helpful! OK, DUH! Just looked at the photos listed above that show the swimming area! Is there food/drinks/music there as well??
LunaSeaRetreat Posted June 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Thanks for the updates. Glad to hear some good reports. The website says that if you book online that they provide a bus. Has anyone done this? Thanks, Cynthia
nolejagbuc Posted June 18, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 18, 2010 We did the Carnival Excursion at the end of March on the Inspiration. This was the kids favorite stop! They enjoyed it more than the stingrays from the year before. I thought the place was very clean and the people friendly. The food was delicious and not too over priced. The restrooms were clean and the freshwater pool was a nice break from the saltwater.
