Not even close. Times have changed and Carnival has changed their suggested dress code to reflect the wishes of the majority of its passangers. Agree or not, it is what it is.

Ok, so enlighten us....what exactly is "Elegant Night" if not formal night? Going on a 4 day and need to know. Thanks in advance for clarification.

When it was "formal" night, DH and sons wore tuxes and I wore a cocktail dress. Now that it is "elegant" night, DH and sons wear tuxes and I wear a cocktail dress.

Generally, you will see a handful of people in tuxes and gowns and a handful of people in dockers and polos (sometimes tees). The majority of men will wear either a suit or a button-down shirt/tie and women will wear dresses or pantsuits. That's been our experience on both shorter and longer cruises.
