geogran Posted July 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2010 We are first time cruisers, both 65+, and we purchased Access America insurance at the time we booked our cruise through our TA for a 7 day Mediterranean cruise. We have read with interest posts here regarding insurance. Now I'm wondering if we bought sufficent Medical coverage? (our TA said this was average but could buy more if we wanted) $ 500,000 Emergency Medical Transportation 25,000 Emergency Med and Dental (max $500 for dental) $ 3,000 Trip Cancellation 500 Travel/trip delay 4,500 Trip Interruption Coverage 750 Vehicle Return Benefit 500 Missed Connection 1,000 Baggage Coverage 300 Baggage Delay For you seasoned travellers - do these amounts fall into ranges of coverage that you purchased? Guess I'm just looking for that 'comfortable' feeling that we are adequately covered.....:)

Medicare won't but many supplemental policies will. If "yes" then the $25K is probably enough. If not, I'd want a minimum of $50K.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2010 I am confused when you say 500,000 Emergency Medical Transportation 25,000 Emergency Med and Dental (max $500 for dental) I think you mean 500,000 in medical and 25,000 in emergency evacuation but I could be wrong. If it is 25,000 in med evacuation and that is it I would get that amount increased. In general, it is not much to increase medical so I would error with more not less. geogran Posted July 18, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted July 18, 2010 Thank you both for your replies. Cruisco - Yes Medicare is our primary, and our supplemental policy through my company only covers domestic - so we will call to increase medical from 25k to 50k - that was our first instinct at the time, but didn't think it through and our TA didn't suggest more. Keith - the amounts I listed are correct - 500k being the Emergency Medical Transportation. Medical and Dental is 25k - and we plan to increase. Onward and upward!!! Rare Keith1010 Posted July 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2010 geogran, yes you should definitely increase the Medical as it is not enough should something serious occur. Keith
Kevin/Deb in FL Posted July 18, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2010 You really need to make sure the medical is is "primary coverage". Also take into consideration if anything serious happens (heart attack, ect.) the cruise line will more than likely remove you from the ship at the first opportunity, and transfer you to medical facility. If this is in a foreign country it can get costly.
