MAC RED Posted August 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2010 I am due to travel with celebrity on the century one of the stops is naples, well salerno. I have looked on this forum and have seen a number posts about getting to Pompeii on your own, but since then i have realised they where talking about getting there from naples port not salerno. Has anyone been to salerno port and is easy to do Pompeii on your own from here? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.
aquilegia Posted August 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2010 You can take a train from Salerno to Pompeii. The Pompeii station it will take you to isn't on the same line as the Circumvesuviana train from Naples which stops right outside the ruins, so you will have about a mile walk to the ruins, or I believe you can take a local bus from the station. MAC RED Posted August 13, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted August 13, 2010 Thanks aquilegia for replying, do you know how long and how much it would cost ?
aquilegia Posted August 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2010 Depending on whether it's a fast or slow train, I think from 20 minutes to three quarters of an hour. I don't know how frequently they run, but I think Trenitalia has a website so you could probably get info from there. I'm not sure about the cost, but Italian train travel is generally very cheap. euro cruiser Posted August 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2010 On weekdays there is an 8:52 train from Salerno that arrives in Pompei at 9:12 (20 minutes) and makes only one stop in between.
