garycarla Posted September 17, 2010 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2010 There are lots of decent hotels in New Orleans. Prices have a wide range. Parking is not cheap for some of them. Wish I could suggest a specific one, but not sure what you are looking for. What I can not stress enough is to book it TODAY. Do not wait. Rooms are often hard to get in New Orleans. kcfoxy Posted September 22, 2010 #28 Share Posted September 22, 2010 Are you referring to the Hampton Inn-Convention Center or Hampton Inn-Downtown New Orleans?? I'm booked at HI-Convention Center next month (cruise package), so I'm definitely interested in hearing more about this particular property -- things to do closeby, restaurants, French Quarter, proximity to casinos. TIA! you are referring to is at the Convention Center, closer to the cruise docks; not the same property mentioned. We will be staying at that one, just 1 1/2 blocks off Canal and conveniently on a street car line vs the one across from the Convention Center/port/Riverwalk and near Harrah's Casino and Mulate's. Apples and oranges, but each with their charms. Coming into town the second Jazz Fest 2011 weekend should make for an interesting airport experience but as we are not actually in the French Quarter but very near, hopefully it won't be as raucous... BTW: I did all the research, and narrowed it down to the Downtown/French Quarter Hampton (near Mr. B's, Deanie's, Johnny's, Napoleon House, Mr. Chubby's Cheesesteaks, and within walking distance of the Bon Ton), Drury Inn or Springhill Suites. We've stayed at them all in different cities and really love the full, hot breakfasts. Now I'd like to know more about the shuttle down to the port that an earlier poster mentioned...I couldn't tell if that person was referring to the Downtown/French Quarter Hampton Inn or the Convention Center version... zounds Posted September 22, 2010 #29 Share Posted September 22, 2010 lovetexas--Hope you found a suitable arrangement. I just now saw your post and wanted to let you know we are cruising in Dec. and driving down, so I booked the cruise pkg. at this hotel for $l47. TOTAL includ. 8 nights parking. It's at Julia & St Peters, convenient to port and MULATE's!
