Las Palmas - Canary Islands: A couple of questions

Hi -

We will be visiting Las Palmas by cruise ship in early December 2010 and have several questions for those that have been there.

1) What can we expect the weather to be like? We have seen that the temperatures in December are around 26C / 79F. When is the rainy season (if there is one)?

2) How far from where the ship docks is the town? Is it walking distance or does one need to arrange for some sort of transportation?

3) We have looked at the member reviews here on Cruise Critic and they are not very helpful. Most are a sentence or two that say something like: "We got off the ship and walked through the shops. Been there and done that." All in all, not very helpful. We have several excursions to choose from such as exploring the city of Las Palmas including museum visits or a bus tour/hike out in the countryside. We could just as easily explore on our own.

We know that everyone's tastes are different so we'll avoid asking "What's the best...?". What did your do that you would recommend? What did you do that you wished you hadn't?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas, and recommendations.

Regards,

Paul

You may well get hot and sunny weather, but they do get quite a lot of rain in the winter, so don't count on good weather.

You can walk into town from where the ships dock, but if you want to see the old town with the Casa de Colon (which I really liked - very atmospheric- and the cathedral, I suggest a taxi as it is quite a long way. Alternatively the hoho bus picks up from near the ship.
