Whitemarsh Posted October 18, 2010 Author #51 Share Posted October 18, 2010 Easy friend, I think we are agreeing on several points. I offered the suggestion that you would enjoy Vibz on a Caribbean voyage (as opposed to the Transatlantic crossing you experienced), which you agreed might be possible. Yes, that's all fine, however it was the inference in this paragraph of yours - There are people that like to dance, no matter their age or their dance skills. I've seen people dancing on QM2 dance floors that ranged from teenagers to folks in their 90's. Personally, I would hate to see age discrimination on the dance floor. Can you imagine seeing reading on the Daily Programme: Over 21 and under 50 can dance tonight. - (intended or otherwise) that I'm suggesting there should be age-segregated dance floors on the QM2 that annoyed me. As to what you and I might agree is good music for a nightclub, that varies by individual taste, locale, and demographics of the clientele. Yes this is true. However, it would be generally agreed by most everyone that the expected type of music in a nightclub (or any establishment purporting to be one) is loud & modern. Whilst I love Mozart I would be surprised to hear his music in a nightclub. Well, any other nightclub apart from G32 ;). You disagreed with my observation that "Vibz rocked the boat", which would be understandable, had you been on the same voyage. I was referring to my experience; no doubt your experience on a Transatlantic crossing was different. I'm sorry, but I just cannot picture or imagine 'Vibz' rocking anything. I will just have to take your word for it that Caribbean cruises are enhanced by the musical stylings of 'Vibz'. Do 'Vibz' play in the Queen's Room during afternoon tea on Caribbean cruises? :D If I understand correctly, you feel that QM2 lacks a proper nightclub where "This is music 'spun' by a DJ who mixes the songs." I suppose many of us have a different definitation of "a proper nightclub". (But I have been in G32 when there was a DJ mixing.) Must have been a different DJ to one we had. The guy we had did not beatmatch at all. The change, and gap, between songs was very noticeable. He wouldn't get a gig DJing in London or New York. I appeciate that you feel QM2 lacks a proper nightclub. Got that. And I also got that you feel passengers 'under the age of 50' do not have a venue to dance to the music. Thank you. These are my sentiments, however I'd probably state that there is a venue - just not the right music. Please be assured that I have read your post carefully. In return, I ask that you read mine with equal care. ;) It's a deal. Inferences included. :)
CosmoKramer37 Posted October 18, 2010 #52 Share Posted October 18, 2010 I think that you can appeal to younger people without beer drinking and wet t-shirt contests. Like you said, just having a proper nightclub playing contemporary music would be something. The fact that they don't gives a good idea of the market they're aiming for - baby boomers, which makes a lot of sense. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against it at all, the ships look lovely, and if I were 20 years older I'd be very interested in trying a TA, but I think I'm a bit young still. Yeah, you're right the wet t-shirt competitions are a bit of an exaggeration. I do think however that a TA is the perfect cruise for trying out Cunard and seeing if you like it. We're in our thirties and apart from the whole G32 thing we really enjoyed it.
Whitemarsh Posted October 18, 2010 Author #54 Share Posted October 18, 2010 I thought I would add some pictures. The view from our table in the PG looking out onto the deck. The view from our balcony looking aft. Our stateroom. Our stateroom looking in. The view from our table in the PG looking down the runway towards the entry of the PG. A close up of the same view. You can see all the activity in Kings Court. The view from bed.

brigittetom Posted October 19, 2010 #59 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Margatebne...Loved the review. Thank for taking the time to write it in such wonderful detail. In all the cruises we have taken, we have always found DJ's in the nightclubs playing what THEY want. About every 6th song they get a crowd on the dance floor, then they go back to emptying the floor. You would think they would have the sense to "play" for the crowd. Scrambled eggs.....We thought the same thing, never could figure out if they were "real" eggs or not but they were the same all over the ship. I happen to really like Vibz but always thought it was odd to have a Caribbean band playing while leaving NY for a TA and especially leaving SH....except when they play "Sailing". That one song seems so appropriate. They played it leaving NY and when I asked them to play it leaving SH, they said they didn't know that song. Weird. I think you would enjoy them very much on deck in the Caribbean. :)
Whitemarsh Posted October 19, 2010 Author #60 Share Posted October 19, 2010 More photos. Empty decks for most of the crossing. On the last day the deck chairs came out. Commodore Club aka The Bouncing Castle The Chart Room - This room has great ambiance and the Jazz band is terrific. The grill deck. When people walk past the Grill restaurants during the day this is how clearly we can see them. More deck. I love deck 7, it feels like a proper Promenade Deck. View of the walk-in wardrobe which was excellent. Another picture of the stateroom. The sun rising in the morning. Approaching the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. This is the view of the Statue of Liberty when you arrive in New York in the early morning.
@luxurywriter Posted October 19, 2010 #61 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Margatebne, I really enjoyed those detailed shots you posted. Thank you for taking the time to do that. I'm great at taking photos but horrible at managing the images after I get back home. ;)
