JoJo1973 Posted November 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Does anyone know the going rate for taxi hire in Chilean Ports such as Punta Arenas or Puerto Montt? Say we get a guy to drive us around for the whole day, 7-8 hours of which 2-3 hours of driving and the other is waiting time. Would the drivers typically prefer to be paid in pesos or dollars? JoJo1973 Posted November 10, 2010 Author #2 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Also, are there any ports that it's difficult to get a taxi (i.e. demand exceeds supply)?

smeyer418 Posted November 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2010 there is no going rate. Its depends on what you want to do and your negotiating skills. In Puerto Montt I have heard anywhere from $50-150. Germans tend to pay less. Most drivers meeting cruise ships will accept USD. But you can also get local currency from any ATM and the driver will happily show you one and want a few minutes while you get them.
bcnvcanada Posted November 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2010 There are many vans at both ports. 12 persons. If you go with others it is so much cheaper. Though last year in Port Mott, got a taxi for 5 hours, for 30 usd per person two of us. Did the highlights and had a great time. In P. A used a van it was 7 usd for the 5/6 hours. There will be a good amount of taxis and vans at both ports. Great journey, Enjoy.
