Nassau Bahamas

I will be sailing on the Fascination leaving Nov 27 to Nassau. My DH is not a fan of sitting on a beach all day. Can anyone suggest what to do while there for the day. Can we just take the water taxi to Atlantis and just walk around?

Help...I need input.

Thanks ;)

Just not sure what to do in Nassau? Might be interesting to walk around Atlantis?

I have been before with a bunch of woman and we just spent the day at Junkaroo beach. My DH is not into that sooooo hence my dilemma?

Unless your Gambling, walking aroudn Atlantis lobbies seems like an awful waste of time. It's just a hotel, you can't go on the grounds, see the sealife, check out the lagoons or see the exhibits. Unless you have never seen the inside of a big hotel, I'd skip the Atlantis and find a nice beach or snorkeling tour.

Marina Village has the same shops as you find downtown, just higher prices.

We were thinking of going to see the lobby/casino (especially since we love chihuly, some of the pieces look pretty cool in lobby and casino). Also they do have one huge aquarium in the lobby area that is free.

We probably will drop some money in the casino too, to stretch out the time a little bit.

Question? Do you get free drinks while gambling at the Atlantis?

The casino is nice to see it has a lot of unique statues stitting in areas of the casino, the games were not that interesting but I did break out even and actually make about $20.

There was someone coming around asking if you wanted anything but we did not get anything; I have heard you have to pay.

We will also be on the same cruise, we have a roll card on CC as well as the Carnival site.

drinks are free if you can find a server.. tip big on the first drink to ensure her/him coming back.

as for the aquarium, it's no longer accessible without a pass. Not even the open glass. There's security at the top of the stairs preventing you from going down to check it out.

Scubagirl,

Do you know of any vendors that rent 4 wheel scooter's we want to do the walking tour suggest by Frommels, but Mom can't walk all that way. Also I hear about horse and buggy, I can't seemto find a vendor on line since we don't dock till1pm I would love to reserve somthing.

Any info would be great.

Scooter Rentals

You will find scooter vendors outside most of the hotels in Nassau and on Paradise Island. You can also find them outside of the cruiseship dock. Rentals agents should give you a quick lesson on how to drive. Driving is on the left, and traffic is tricky.

A newcomer to Nassau is Island Scooter Rentals. They are located a block east past the Cruise Ship dock on Bay St and look for Island Scooter Rental. See Nassau/Paradise Island at your own pace. These car-like scooters allow you and a partner to sit comfortably side by side in a 2-person scooter. Or, you can rent a larger scooter that fits a group of 5 people! Island Scooter Rental vehicles are very easy to drive and quite safe. They supply you with a full tank of gas, snorkel equipment, and one can pay for insurance for only $5. If you're planning to travel around the Nassau/Paradise Island and see some of the famous beaches and historic locations, using Island Scooter Rentals is a great way to do it.

Oh that's a bummer. But the free drink thingy is good to know, the tipping thing sounds like in Vegas at some casino's where servers are "scarce" ;)

Do you think paying for the aquarium is worth it? I have been to aquarium of the pacific in California and the newport beach aquarium in Oregon, which are great, and then our aquarium in Denver (which sucks, apparently mountains and aquatic life don't go together, who knew?) How do you think it compares on the scale of aquariums, is it a "wow"?

Scubagirl, Are their other evening activities available in Nassau besides Atlantis? Our ship is in port until midnight we're looking for something to do. Any suggestions would be great!!!!! Something besides a casino. Thank you

Depends on the nite and the season. Most hotels have some entertainment on weekend nites. Sheraton Thurs - Sun (in season). Hilton has Havana Nights on Thursday. There's a few clubs on the wharf open weekends as well.

Even Atlantis is lax during the week in the off season. Economy is hurting the entertainment business.. for sure.

If you've got access to great aquariums, this one won't be a wow. It's nice.. but the DIGS just allows you to view the same big aquarium from all angles. All caribbean fish. Not as diverse as most big aquariums in the states and around the world.

Carriage rides are only daytime. and during midday, in the heat of the summer months, they take a short siesta to keep the horses from overheating. Not much to do these day's in Nassau at night. A few clubs, some GREAT restaurants.. and a couple of hang outs.

If it's nice out.. and you want to hang out under the stars for a few.. take a cab to the Green Parrot on the Nassau side.. it's wheelchair accessible and right on the water.

Make sure you're cabbie knows when to return for you.

I was just going to tell them this. When I went to Nassau in September, I noticed this was something new they are doing, although I don't know when it started. Just another way to get money. It's ridiculous in my opinion.

We are going to do the walking tour and also go to Ardastra. Is it close to Fish Fry?

We walked from Ardastra to the Fish Fry, as I read in this forum, it's about 2 blocks, not bad at all. Here you see my 88y/o Mom, on her way for a treat!:D

As of at least early 2011, Island Scooter Rentals is no longer in business. We were in Nassau in April 2011 and could not find any other company renting larger than normal scooters.

Which location is best to sit outdoors? Are they open in the evening and is it safe to go?

Green Parrot on the Nassau side is larger and more set up for an evening of hanging out. It's certainly safe to go. They are open from lunch thru dinner and beyond. www.greenparrotbar.com

Arrange for a cab to come back and pick you up, or get a number.
