Marigot rental cars

We will be on Wind Spirit next week, which I understand ports at Marigot on St. Maarten. I have found several rental cars outfits on-line, but they seem to be some distance from Marigot. Does anyone know the closest in town rental car agency, with information on costs, and should this be arranged in advance? Thanks.

I can't help with the car, as we cabbed around the island, but I would like to tell you about our favorite spot. We loved Isle Pinel, a tiny little island reached by a wooden small boat for a couple bucks just off the coast from Cul-de-Sac on the French side. The island has two beachside restaurants, good swimming and chairs and umbrellas for rent. Very out of the way, and not too far from Marigot.

The only car rentals we found were near the airport, which is on the Dutch side, west of Phillipsburg. I don't know if there are any on the French side, which is where Marigot is. However, it is VERY easy to get taxis to take you anywhere you want to go. Just be sure to arrange for them to pick you up--and get their cell number.

 

If you have very small children, Anse Marcel is the best beach. You can use the facilities of Le Meridien Hotel, the water is very calm, and the descent into it very gradual--it's also beautiful.

There are a number of independent car rentals at the pier in Phillipsburg. There may be some in Marigot too. If not, perhaps one of these outfits would agree to meet you at the pier with a car. You might ask on the St. Martin board.
