Azure Moon Posted January 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2011 According to the link in this thread http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1346164, Spirit goes into drydock in September. Does anyone know what changes will be done during the drydock? I'm just curious. Wasn't the Spirit shown as getting a makeover on the CNBC special "Big Money on the High Seas"? That was made not too long ago. Or was the footage of the Spirit from an earlier date?
dchang Posted January 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Thank you for posting this info on the Spirit dry dock. We are sailing on the Spirit leaving NOLA on 10/30/11. It appears the Spirit dry dock will occur after the 9/18/11 cruise. It looks like our sailing we be the 3rd or 4th sailing after the Spirit returns from dry dock. What great timing for us, especially since this will be our first cruise in a penthouse suite. We certainly hope all the suites are update as they were on the Sun. We would also love to try out the new Brazilian Steakhouse if that is also included in dry dock. We were looking forward to this cruise before we found out about the dry dock. Now we can't wait for our cruise in October.

That is interesting, yes, she was refurbished pretty much from top to bottom in 2008 (early November) We sailed her the second sailing after she came out of dry dock. samdham Posted January 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2011 I don't know the exact changes, but if you go to the NCL website, there are before April and after April deck plans for the Spirit.

All cruise ships are required to have a drydock twice every 5 years. US Coast Guard may permit exceeding the rule under certain conditions, like if the ship had recently completed a longer mid-life refit. Generally, one should expect a maintenance drydock every two to three years, so as to have two in five years. The Spirit's last drydock was around two years ago.
