A good tour not beach

Do you have other things that you are interested in doing/seeing? There will be many taxis near the cruise pier and you can arrange an island tour with one of the drivers. It is a mountainous island so the ride can be a bit "scary", although the main roads are paved. The views up in the mountains are beautiful and your taxi driver will know good places to stop for pictures etc.

Tortola does not have the "big name" shopping places. Most of the shops are local, not chains. I really enjoy Sunny Caribbee (spices, and an art gallery in Road Town) and I also like Aragorn's studio in Trellis Bay (east end of the island, near the airport). If you drink alcholic beverages, you should try a Painkiller while you are there (the drink was invented in the BVI). All of the bars/restaurants make them, but they are most authentic at Pusser's (the original version used Pusser's rum).

We took one of the open air bus island tours when we were in Tortola. There are many buses waiting at the end of the pier. The cost was about $20-25 and the tour was about 2 1/2 hours. We really enjoyed it and got to go to the highest point on the island and also stopped a couple of times to take photos.

We are looking for a tour that does not include swimming or water. We have never been to Tortola and would like to see the island. Thanks for your help Roz

We were in Tortola on a Sunday (Boxing Day, 12.26.2010, so most of the stores were closed).

First time in this island, so booked a similar tour as the ones mentioned above but directly with the cruise line:

- Celebrity organized excursion: Historical and Cultural British Virgin Islands (4 hours, starting 12:30pm) - $34.00 USD/pp

Had a great time and touched most of the main attractions!

Happy travels!

We will be in Tortola in about three weeks (from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.). Besides shopping in Road Town, we can not think of anything else to do. A short tour sounds like a good idea.

Could you please tell me what were covered/visited in your 2.5 hour island tour?

Thank you.
