CDNJehn Posted February 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2011 Has anyone visited the stops on this walking tour? I'll be in Nassau with my boyfriend, my 13 year old son and my 53 year old Mother. Trying to find something semi-educational to do before we head to the beach. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html

I am also interested in doing this tour. Does anyone know how much time should be allocated for the walk? I found another tour on this thread that was even better- it incorporated Frommers but added more history and pictures. I don't have the website- sorry. There should also be maps and a walking tour available in Festival Place. For $25 pp there is a City Tour available that features all the major stops with a history lesson. If I were taking children, I might try this. Since it is only m DH and I, we will do the walking tour. For a "taste of Bahamas", we decided to also take the #10 bus (or walk) to "The Fish Fry" (Arawak Cay), for lunch. This is a locals hangout, full of Bahamian culture, with excellent food. Have fun!:cool:
tmt218 Posted February 15, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2011 Here is a link to a cruise review that him and his family did the Frommers walk. Alot of people are still reading the review and he comes back to answer questions. Very detailed and lots of pictures. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1068189&highlight=pride+reviews HTH
Rare CruisinCrow Posted February 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2011 It probably takes about 2 hours to do the walking tour, depending on how long you linger. You don't have to do the whole tour. When my mom and I did the tour, we just mapped out the areas we were most interested in and visited those. I'm not sure how interested a 13-year-old boy would be in the walking tour. A lot of it is just looking at old buildings. :) Definitely visit the fort and Queen's staircase. Those two places will have people who can tell you about the history. On our most recent trip to Nassau, my husband and I went to Graycliff and saw the cigar factory and hotel. Very beautiful and historic. One of the cigar factory workers made me a little rose out of a cigar.
cardamon Posted February 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the reply! I just needed to plan time, since we are very limited.

Ocean Boy Posted February 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2011 I also think that it is worth climbing the stairs to the top of the water tower. The view from up there is awesome. There is an elevator if you are not into stairs.
ILoveScotland Posted February 16, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for this. I'll be in Nassau in May. I was there a few years a few years ago so don't want to do much, just take a little walk around and then get back on the ship. This helps me know what's near enough to do just that. True ... but I was hoping to punish him with a good dose of culture and education since he was getting the week off of school! ;) He'll love the fort though, we'll definitely stop there.
