Is there wireless in the courtyard villas? (one step down from the garden villa). Of only ethernet, is there any reason why I couldn't bring a wireless router? My iPad doesn't have an Ethernet port.

Yes the Courtyard Villa's on the Pearl are wireless...

@BabsterA -

If you have an iPad, you'll be fine. I cruise with my Wi-Fi-only iPod touch, and I do not need anything but my charging cable. Usually I buy the $50 package, which is good enough for a 2-week trans Atlantic cruise. I write everything off-line, no surfing. Once I am logged on, my iPod automatically downloads my emails and sends everything that is sitting in the Outbox. It takes between four and six minutes per on-line session. and that includes all my emails which I have pre-written and my daily activity log, which I send to myself.

Two questions:

I have an iPad. How do I keep from being connected all the time? I know how it works with a laptop, but haven't worked through it on the iPad.

Put the iPad in Airplane Mode (look in Settings). That'll turn off all the radios. You'll be able to use the iPad's other apps -- as long as they don't require connectivity.

I've traveled NCL with my iPad and 1. You have to sign up for the WiFi (and be charged for it) then you will receive a login and set a passcode. 2. Each time you log in, you are reminded to log out correctly (I think it's 1.1.1.1 in the Internet address bar, but that might be another cruise line.) 3. Logging on to the WiFi is a manual process; HOWEVER, 3G (cellular) is automatic and can really hit you in the pocketbook. This is where airline mode comes in handy.

Actually, on the IPAD, goto CELLULAR DATA, where you can turn CELLULAR DATA off. If your CELLULAR DATA is ON, it all gives you the option to turn CELLAR DATA ROAMING off. Go into your SETTINGS

Wouldn't Airline Mode be easier?

Many don't realize you can place an iPhone or iPad in Airline Mode and then turn WiFi back on. It's easy and guarantees you won't return home to an unexpected large monthly bill.
