Hotel for Brooklyn Terminal and Mets Game

We plan to fly into LGA on Friday, August 5. We want to attend the Mets game that night. On Saturday, our cruise leaves from Brooklyn pier. We will fly home the day we return on the cruise. We have visited NYC several times, but have never cruised from there or attended a Mets game. QUESTION: Considering cost and convenience of what we would like to do, does anyone have a hotel recommendation? Would probably prefer easier access to the Mets game. We will probably use a car service from hotel to ship and ship to LGA. Any info/advice is welcome. Thank you.

As you no doubt are aware, Citi Field is very close to LGA, so it makes sense to stay in that general area if you're going to a Mets game. Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with the hotels in the area to make a recommendation, but hopefully posters like GTJ and greatam who know the area hotels well can chime in here. However, it would be useful for anyone who tries to help you to know what your approximate hotel budget is.

I suggest you make your hotel to cruise pier and cruise pier to airport car service reservations independently. If you make them through your hotel you're likely to pay more. Many people recommend Dial 7 car service: 212-777-7777 .

The Crowne Plaza LaGuardia and the Marriott are usually available on Priceline BIDDING for $125 or less. Bid 3.5* and you will ONLY get the Marriott of Crowne Plaza. They are across the street from each other.

The Crowne is also available TODAY via Quikbook for $159 + taxes for either one King or two double. The Crowne has better food than the Marriott and also has a shuttle bus that will take you to either the ballpark or the train station. The Marriott is non smoking and has great views of the runways at LGA if you are into planespotting. Either hotel is no more than a 10 minute drive to Citi Field.

Then call a car service to get to your cruise the following morning. As njhorseman posted, DO NOT allow the hotel to call a taxi or car service for you. They upcharge heavily for the privilege.

Just wanted to add that the Crowne Plaza is sometimes called the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel. There is another dump hotel, also on Ditmars Blvd that is called a similar name. The address for the Crowne is 104-04 Ditmars. There is also a Hampton Inn next door to the Crowne (and owned by the same conglomerate) BUT it is usually more expensive AND to get your free breakfast, you have to go next door to the Crowne anyway. I LIKE full service hotels with the business centers and exercise rooms. The Crowne has an indoor pool. It is very nice and steamy in there in the winter.
