Will be on the Legend in August and it looks like Ralph Valente will be leaving the ship for the month of August and James Dunn will be taking his place......

Anyone have James as their Cruise Director

Please share any info

Thanks

That reminds me, FYI for future Legend cruisers. Ralph goes by the name "Weeee Jimmy"

Here are a few very random tidbits from the Legend.

The breakfast buffet had the best Banana bread that I have ever had- EVER- they also had pumpkin. It was over in the bakery area where they offered the muffins. It was only available during breakfast. It was hot and fresh out of the oven.

On one of the sea days, the pool bar had a margarita special. They had about 8 or 9 different flavors. I tried the Banana Margarita and it was sooo good. ! They offered some very unique flavors such as blue rasberry, black cherry, sour apple etc..... They were served in a regular plastic cup and were not too overly priced. I am not sure if this was noted in the Fun Times so you may just have to keep your eyes open for it.

There is a basketball hoop up near the funnel roof that covers the Golden Fleece. From the outside you cannot see in but from inside the restaurant you can see out. We spent our entire 2 hour meal watching a fellow lean against this roof area with half his shorts down. Nothing like having a romantic meal and looking up at his plumber's-crack. It reminds me of that song from American Idol, "Pants on the Ground"

On debarkation morning, a very good place to wait is the seating area across from the Coffee Cafe. They have comfy chairs and loveseats with small tables. Buy a specialty coffee and wait in comfort.

We always liked sitting in the upper area of the Theatre. It was easy-in and easy-out and well always managed to find a seat.

The rear and front elevators always seemed to be a much better choice than the middle ones.

We also enjoyed the Lobby bar and area. They usually had some type of music in the evenings and some afternoons this area was used for contests. It was very quiet and uncrowded.

Check out the Enchanted Forest area. You can take a glass of wine and get a table for two in a very out of the way place.

Above all, have a great time. We loved this ship and met some of the very nicest staff and fellow cruisers. :)

Issues

On August 21, 2002, during the christening ceremony, Judi Dench took three attempts to smash the bottle against the ship's hull, aided by ship's captain Claudio Cupisci. The third attempt successfully smashed the bottle but the force sent the flowing champagne all over her. She took the soaking in good spirits and announced "I am godmother to 13 godchildren and a god-dog - now I'm godmother to a great ship."

On July 13, 2005, Carnival Legend left Tortola and was heading back to New York City. At 5:10 PM, the ship suddenly listed 14 degrees to the port side while making a hard starboard turn, resulting in some minor injuries. The crew came on to the intercom a few minutes later to announce to passengers that there had been a computer glitch. Crew members indicated that a list of that degree was without precedent in their experience. Passengers were not compensated for spilled drinks, etc.

On August 3, 2005, around 10 pm, heavy smoke was seen coming from the lower levels towards the bow of the ship. In minutes, there was an announcement for everyone to proceed to the upper, open decks. The Cruise Director announced "there was a problem in the engine room and that something had overheated". People had to stay put for over an hour. No real explanation or compensation was given.

During the May 20, 2006 cruise, Ramesh Krishnamurthy, age 35, from Plumstead, Pennsylvania, was presumed dead after jumping off the Carnival Legend at 1 am on Saturday, May 27, 2006. He was reported jumping out of his balcony room after an argument with his wife in front of his children, 450 miles northeast of Florida. Foul play is not suspected, and he was believed to have been under the influence. The ship remained in the vicinity for eleven hours, delaying the Legend's arrival back to New York City the following day until 8 pm. Coast Guard officials were sent out to aid in the search, but he was never found.

During the September 2, 2007 cruise, there was a complete loss of power for approximately an hour, during the first day at sea. Because of this, the ship arrived late at port the next day. The cause of this problem was not explained to the passengers.

On September 30, 2009, as the ship was leaving the berth in Cozumel, heavy winds pushed the ship against the side of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' Enchantment of the Seas. Carnival Legend sustained damage to its open deck areas, as well as broken glass. Both ships were able to leave for its next scheduled port after being cleared by port authorities.

On February 13, 2010, Carnival Legend had to reduce speed and limp home due to a mechanical problem that drastically reduced the ship's speed. Passengers reported hearing grinding noises and vibrations coming from the engine room. The ship made it back to its homeport of Tampa several hours late. The next voyage resulted in a late departure and a schedule change of Cozumel instead of Grand Cayman.

I love the Legend. In fact, I'm planning my 4th cruise on her for next February if we can make all the arrangements.

I prefer the Spirit class ship over Conquest. Have yet to try the Dream class but contemplating one at this point.

Getting around is quite easy on the Legend. You don't need to go up one deck and down another to access the MDR.

Production shows are good in the Follies theater. I believe one of the clubs was just re-designed during dry dock, the Medusa's Liar. We have spent plenty of time in the sports bar, casino and lido on each cruise. All good.

Never have experienced a bad crew. Food is average to good. Has gone down a little bit over the past few years. Cut backs in the number of live musicians is noticeable as well. I think the passenger space ratio is the best. Never feel crowded even on a full ship. Oh, the Golden Fleece steakhouse is awesome!!!

You won't be disappointed.

Just returned from 4/24-5/1 Legend sailing...

* Amazed at how well they handled breakfast/lunch in the Lido deck cafe. There were so many stations for food and drinks that there weren't the bottlenecks and lines that we've had on the Fantasy-class ships. Lines seemed to be minimal (except the chocolate buffet on the final sea day!) and tables were always to be found even when nearly everyone was eating at the same time on port mornings and debarkation morning.

* If you have larger tumblers or cups for water/lemonade/tea-- bring your own!! I always thought they were on the small side (especially if you were taking them to your deck chair while sunbathing), but the new cups on the Legend were like the kiddy cups @ IKEA. We brought our big insulated Tervis tumblers and we saw a lot of others who did the same thing! (Maybe because the company is from Florida?!)

* Highly recommend the extended balconies on deck 5 (upper) forward. They are the only ones with the angled glass that makes them feel even roomier than the other extended balconies-- it was our first balcony and it felt HUGE! We had 5130 on the end of the extended balconies and we could see how much extra room we had as our next door neighbor had a regular size balcony. Didn't hear anything from the show lounge area directly below and didn't have any problems with having Camp Carnival so close by...

* We booked the steakhouse based on rave reviews, but we were not impressed with our experience.

We had an early (6:00) reservation in a nearly empty Golden Fleece and the host led us to a table for 2 right next to where they were cooking. I nicely asked if we could be moved to a different table (i.e., that was not so noisy with the grill and chefs so close by or with a view of the raw meat cart, various storage carts) and was treated with indifference. We were seated 2 tables away, which was fine (but guess which table the next arriving couple ended up with!).

Our servers were not friendly and did not come by the table to see if we needed anything, water/bread refills, etc. The other 4 tables nearby seemed to also be receiving the same indifferent service. Our waitstaff in the main dining room was fantastic, however!

My husband had the NY strip and I the surf & turf-- both entrees were merely OK. They seemed to be on par with the quality in the MDR.

We were disappointed in our Legend steakhouse experience... Being our first time, I only had others' reviews for expectations, but I did not feel that we received a $60 value for our expenditure and I'm not sure that we would try it again...

* All in all, we had a great time on board the Legend. She was a lot newer than the Fantasy-class ships we had previously sailed and we appreciated the extra amenities and square footage so we never felt crowded by fellow passengers. Looking forward to booking a future Legend-ary cruise!

As far as TV stations go you will get some movie channels (TNT movies and a few others but not very many) a few news channels and all the ship channels showing your location, little clips of shows throughout the day previously recorded on the ship and a list of activities.

In my signature is my review of our 2nd Legend cruise in March 2011 with lots of photos - read through and enjoy!

Just booked our Legend cruise for August. We had to cancel a cruise (Holland America to Mexico) a few weeks ago becuase my dad passed away so we're doing this one to give the kids the vacation they just missed. I really like the itinerary and am looking forward to browsing the Carnival boards for any and all information I can get before we board!
