che5904 Posted May 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2011 Oh my goodness beachlady you've been all around the ship. Looks like you are having a tough time with your decision :D NCL Website is very good when it comes to their photos online. They are really accurate. The only differences were the loveseat, curtains and carpet colours.
Inuvikcouple Posted May 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2011 Does anyone have pictures of Aft cabins on decks 9 and 10 on the Star or the Dawn that they can post? Thanks in advance. If you pick a cabin number and Google it, you will find many pictures online, that's what I did in order to see the same cabins you are asking about. Here is our Deck 10 Aft cabin on the Dawn (decorated by my friends for my birthday). I think I have more of the balcony if you need that as well. Well with the exceptions of the balloons  Hope you had a great birthday onboard.

I'd love to be able to sail in the aft, it would be so nice to see where you have left and the balconies are so much bigger. Unfortunately although on both of my cruises I only had one evening that it was a little iffy for sea sickness, our cabin was mid ship, deck 10. I know a quite a few years ago when we went on a one day cruise from Florida to Bahamas we had spent a good portion of the time in a lounge that was at the front of the ship and I was very sick. So I really hate to risk it.

We both take a bonine every day of a cruise as a preventive measure. But that's just our experience - I can totally understand not wanting to take the risk because there is little worse than getting seasick!

We have gravol here in Canada and it works fine so I've never been physically ill just feel nauseated, take it, all's good. But you are not suppose to drink with that (which could really put a damper on my margarita and wine tasting);) I've taken seabands (little wrist things) with me but as I said I only had the one evening, it was bedtime so I took a gravol and went to sleep. So I've never had a chance to try them. A couple of times in the casino I was again iffy not overly nauseated, figured it was probably due to the location of the casino so went back to the cabin and I was fine. OK well it might have been due to the amount I was losing to . One day I may get the courage to try an aft. We are very new to cruising and it's all a learning curve, but hey I'm enjoying the classes so far, nothing like the learning I had to do in school. :p

It's funny, but all the times we have been in a "aft" cabin we never noticed anymore motion than midship. Just make sure you can get the lowest deck possible ( the lower you are seems like the less movement you feel). Just hope watching the wake doesn't make you sick too!! The best part about being way back there is watching the wake--not to mention the privacy! Maybe try a short 3 or 4 day cruise in a stern cabin--see how it goes! Happy cruising!:)
che5904 Posted May 12, 2011 #13 Share Posted May 12, 2011 I'd love to do that but unfortunately I only get a one week winter holiday in 2-3 years usually (self employment - never seems to work out to take one a year). And I need the time because no matter where I go I'd have to fly there to cruise (Canada). So I'll stick to my mid ship balcony for a few more cruises, unless some upsell fairy wants to give me a smashing good deal to try elsewhere, just sayin! :D

No matter what direction we go it's the same amount of time and miles!! Life is too short--give yourself a little more cruising time!!;) I know what you mean tho. We where self employed for many many yrs--cattle ranch/farm in ND. Gotta do what ya gotta do until you can take the time off!
beachlady60 Posted May 13, 2011 Author #15 Share Posted May 13, 2011 Yes, I've been all over the ship. I always have a hard time making decisions. I drive my DH crazy! He hates to go shopping with me. Well, I made my (our) decision. We booked an AFT balcony on the Star for May 2012. So that's over with! Now I'll see what other questions I can up with. I have some recent of the rear of the Dawn as taken from the Pearl when they were back to back. Is that what you want or are you looking for interior pictures?
