Sailing from NYC on the Glory - Questions

Hi everyone, I will be going on my first cruise with four girlfriends in early August this year. We will be on the Glory to Canada for 4 days from New York. I have read many tips and great advises from this board, but still have some silly questions to ask. Thanks everyone in advance.

  • We all live in NYC and one of us is even going to work in the morning of embarkation day (she works in Time Square). We originally plan to meet in the Pier around 1 PM, anyone had experience on how much is the wait to board? Lunch on Lido is not really that important to us, so if we miss it on embarkation day, that’s okay. But since I want to go see the Maitre'D to request a table for 5, and I think the Maitre'D Inquiry hours are 12-3 PM, do you think I can make it on the ship and drop my carry on and go see the Maitre'D if we get to the pier at 1 PM?
    • I know that each individual can bring up to 12 pack of 20 oz non-alcoholic in their carry on only, instead of bringing cans/bottles of 20oz or less, can we bring a total of 240 oz of non-alcoholic in sealed big bottle? The reason I ask is because we are thinking about ordering a bottle of Vodka/Rum from Bon Voyage to mix our own drinks, can we bring big bottle (ex: 64 oz big bottle) of pineapple juice/fruit punch instead of can juice?

    • I know this is silly, but do you just leave your trays after you finish eating in the Lido buffet or do you have to clean it up yourself? Also, after you finish eating in the MDR, do you have to find your waiter and tell him/her that you’re finish and leaving? Or do you just leave if you can’t find him/her?

    • Anyone happens to know how much fluid ounce the souvenir glass and regular glass hold? I want to drink the Kiss on the lips and if it’s not the Drink of the Day, is it served in the souvenir glass or regular glass? Are the virgin versions of the drinks served in regular glass or souvenir glass?

    • All five of us look incredibly young (we’re all in mid 20s, people even ask us for IDs for buying Lottery =/ ), and we expect to be ask for IDs when we order alcohol, enter the casino, or even in Serenity deck. Do we have to carry our IDs, or they can check our age from the computer using the S&S card? I really don’t want to carry our driver license around if they can check it with the S&S card.

Sorry for the silly questions, and Thank you so much in advance.

FAQs state one package of 12 of nonalchoholic drinks in your carry on only.

There is no size stated, first time I ever read someone reads that as 20 oz drinks and wants to know if they can break them up into more.

the rule to me clearly says 12 whatever size, not double if they are smaller.

You will not be carded as if you were a minor it would be on your card and stop you from purchasing drinks on your card.

Thanks for your answers, I thought I read the 20z limit somewhere else, maybe I was wrong.

So I don't have to bring my ID around to show my age, because my S&S card will be enough to show that I'm over 21?

Yep, just the S&S card. thats all you need.

Platinum get the first dining choices, so get to the maitre d' as soon as possible unless you are platinum if you are wanting to switch. A couple at our dining table wanted anytime dining and was turned down. Only platinum are guaranteed.

They also are not counting sodas, they just are trying to prevent smuggling and not have so many drinks to look at.

we got there once at 1 and had a three hour wait. best get there no later than 11. unless you are vip.

OMG, will they let me on the ship if I'm still on line but pass the boarding hour? I will definitely convince my friend to take the whole day off and get there early then!

the other option is to get there about an hour and a half before sailing. we did that once, and walked right on board. everyone else was already on the ship.

and no, if there's a line, they don't just "cut it off". :D

Why don't you just choose "Anytime Dining" that way you can sit with your friends each night and eat anytime that you want? You need to contact Carnival or your travel agent to switch to "anytime dining" if you did not choose that option when you booked.

If I switch to Anytime Dining, can I request a table for our party size every night? I'm afraid that there is going to be a long wait if we do Anytime Dining and request a table for 5 every night... We speak foreign language and we always try to speak English if there are strangers sitting with us to avoid offending anyone, but it’s our vacation to celebrate knowing each other for 10 years and we really want to be ourselves at dinner…

Anytime Dining works pretty much like a regular restaurant. You show up and tell the host/hostess how many are in your party. Sometimes there will be a wait for a table, and sometimes there won't be. Since many people on cruises travel in groups, a table for 5 shouldn't be unusual, so I wouldn't think that you will have to wait a long time every single night.
