I'll be traveling on Oasis of the Seas this September

When the cruise is over, how do I go though customs?

Pick up my bags and get in line with 6100 other people?

Do I fill out my declaration the day before and they come get me only if they want to talk to me.

For the formal nights do they rent tux's on board?

I'm technical, not management. All I own are polos and kakis.

If I don't dress up can I still go out to eat? To shows?

Pick up my bags and get in line with 6100 other people? Yes. EVERYONE goes through customs, whether you have something specific to claim or not. Obviously if you have nothing to claim, the process can be quicker, but not avoidable.

For the formal nights do they rent tux's on board? They do -- but almost no one wears them anymore. Although several lines have "formal nights" or "dress up" nights, much more casual clothing will get you anywhere

Yes, you can go to the dining rooms, the shows, etc. You might want to throw in a sports jacket if you want to feel "dressed"....and probably you can't get away with flip flops in the dining room, but otherwise you should be fine. Have a great cruise.

You can ask Oasis specific Qs on the RCL board.

The customs forms will be in your cabin the day before. You fill them out & take them off the ship with you.

Disembarkation is in groups. The group's luggage is all stored together in a designated area so you don't have to look everywhere in the warehouse for your stuff.

You then get in a big line & wait to go through customs.

On formal night you are expected to dress in a tux or suit for dinner in the MDRs. There are no such requirements for other venues like the buffet & specialty restaurants. They don't seem to care what you wear in other areas like the shows, bars & casino.

If you genuinely don't own a suit you may want to consider buying one. You can get good deals at JCPenny or discount outlets. You can also get great deals on e-bay or at consignment shops. You would have something to wear for this cruise, weddings, funerals & interviews.

As stated, any dress code thread is a perpetual hot topic around here. You will find lots of threads about this here.

You do not have to wear a suit on Formal Night, but many men do. Some men wear a sport jacket and then others will wear a long sleeved shirt and dress pants (with or without tie). You will not be turned away from the dining room should you choose the latter option, however, the "suggested" dress code is a suit for men. You will see this printed in your newsletter, the Cruise Compass.

Do you have to buy a suit or sport coat for this cruise? No. Should you? Up to you.

Enjoy yourselves. :)
