Casino question

I was on the Infinity over the holidays & the crap table had a $5.00 minimum bet. I don't remember it changing over the course of the cruise. The worst part, is the 1X odds limit on the pass/come bets!!
For ALL of them? No 2:1 on the 4/10, 3:2 on the 5/9, etc? Do these people have no shame? The video poker machines aren't good, either. I almost hate to ask what rules they're playing under at the blackjack tables!

I think when they say minimum bet they mean minumum total bet as its spread across the various wagers.

The attendance of the crap tables seems to be either no one or everyone. Probably the demographics of the cruisers. Its mostly a US game. On some cruises almost nobody was playing, on others you couldn't get close.

RE: blackjack rules, there was a rumor that they were going to require dealers to hit soft seventeens. I don't know if this was ever substantiated and am not ever sure if it helps the house. Four cards improve things (ace, 2 3,4), four cards leave things as is (10-King), and the other five cards make for a worse hand. Other than that they pretty much follow Vegas rules and tradition (like those automated card shufflers).

They've been hitting soft 17s for more than a year, and it definitely helps the house. See the Wizard of Odds web site for lots of great blackjack (and other games) info.

You are entirely correct. While I couldn't find the info on the site you referenced I googled "dealer soft seventeen" that explained my errors.

Even though there are 5 "bad" cards for the dealer, he/she can draw another card (or cards) until reaching the hard 17 count. This gives another advantage to the house (about .20 percent).

They pay the correct odds on the back bets (2:1 on 4 & 10; 3:2 on 5 & 9 & 6:5 on 6 & 8) but you can only place 1X your pass/come bet as a back bet w/ the above odds. Vegas now almost exclusively goes 3X (4&10); 4X (5&9) & 5X (6&8), while Tunica, MS is 20X odds at all places. You're almost better off just playing place bets.....

The $5 minimum applys to most any 1 bet. They will let you place $1 center bets like the hardways, etc. You can't put $1 on the pass line & the 4-$1 bets on some of the numbers, for instance.

As for blackjack, they did hit soft 17s, & on the single deck table BJ only paid 6:5. Also, you couldn't double down on a split hand, or split aces more than once.
