helencw Posted July 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2011 I googled holidays in Italy and San Alessio is on Tuesday, Aug 2, the day our ship is arriving in Livorno. Is this a major holiday? Will the typical number of taxi's be working that day? There are two large ships in port including ours, both arriving at 7 am. We were planning to get off the ship early, take a taxi to the train station, and then the train to Florence. I looked at the schedule at Trenitalia, and the trains for this date was similar to the those on a typical weekday. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated. Thanks! ab0si Posted July 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Nothing special in Italy on 2 August. Sant' Alessio is the patron saint of a region in Southern Italy, but even there, nothing is closed or limited.
6rugrats Posted July 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2011 Agree, you should notice nothing. Different regions in Italy have different patron saints. San Alessio is the patron saint of Aspromonte, which is not even close to Livorno. Now, August 15 is another story.
