wales4ever Posted August 18, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Do we need a visa and if so where do we get one?
Thejuggler Posted August 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2011 You will need a Visa for India. Indian High Commission deals with it - just be careful when searching online that you get the High Commission website and not a visa agent. http://hcilondon.in/visa.php It's a few years since we applied, but it used to be a nightmare and took weeks - Indians like their bureaucracy! cruiseluvva Posted August 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Haven't cruised to India but have cruised back. Yes you do need a visa. We applied on-line and then sent off the reference number and our passports were back within about 10 days. I think we paid around £75.
grisham1 Posted August 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Yes we had to get an Indian visa for a one day visit to Mumbai last December. Told we needed one even if we were not going ashore. Downloaded application form and applied to Indian visa department in London in person and our passports were couriered back within a few days. From memory the cost was about £80 each. Merlin7 Posted August 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2011 When we visited a couple of years ago they were changing the goalposts. You could do it online, then you had to apply in person at the High Commission. Not guaranteed to receive your visa the same day, even with an appointment. So, do check that they are not playing the same game now. Our TA sourced our visa at far less cost than that of P&O

Thejuggler Posted August 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Wow - we only paid £75 for the two of us last year. Hence my comment about getting the right site. Some look very official, but add a 'service charge' - this is the clue that they are a visa agent. Current rate for a tourist visa is £30. http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/visafees.html This looks official - but its £86 http://india.visahq.co.uk/
wales4ever Posted August 19, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Ah See thanks. but at the bottom it adds a £10 referral fee plus a £2 consular charge. £42 each then
cruiser1955 Posted August 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Not sure about the current requirement, but when I went in 2005, a multiple entry visa was required. Flew in to Mumbai to board ship. Then sailed to Porbander, so that counted as a second entry. I believe that P&O send out information on visas around 10 weeks before departure. The Indian consulate said that visas took around 4 weeks to process in those days. Mine was issued a couple of days after sending it in, but they still held on to the passport for the full 4 weeks. cruiseluvva Posted August 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Yes, even though we only called at Mumbai last year, we had to have a multiple entry visa too.
