Reistaffel?

Recommended Posts

We will be in Curacao until 10pm on 12/13. Since it is Dutch, is there a good Reistaffel restaurant we can visit? We had one in Amsterdam, and have been looking for another chance to enjoy one.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I misspelled it

There are a couple of Rijsttafel restaurants on the island - Sambal, Rijsttafel Indonesia (now called Sawasdee), Tempoe Doeloe.

For the proximity to the pier I would choose Tempoe Doeloe (in the area of the Marriott and Hilton hotel). It's just a short taxi ride and the food is good.

Rijsttafel is Indonesian. Its literal translation is Table of Rice. You get between 10 -20 small dishes to sample (chicken, pork, beef, fish, vegetables, fruits) all prepared differently and served with rice.

The Dutch has a long colonial history in Indonesia and you find these rijsttafel restaurants wherever Dutch people leave their traces. So it's not Caribbean, but still delicious!

We enjoy all the little dishes of food mentioned and the condiments. When we had Rijsttafel in Curacao and Aruba- they served little dishes of coconut, raisins, mango chutney, hot sauce, pickled peppers, and peanuts to put on the meat and fish dishes. We always had beer with the meal and the meal often lasted 2 hours!
