sunloverstel Posted September 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2011 Getting closer to our cruise 11 days! and still unsure how much to budget for things. We need to get our currency sorted asap. Anything over £50 will go on our visa but its the small things and eating out costs we need to get currency for. Can anyone tell us how much for breakfast, lunch and diner, average hotel costs, but may eat other places too. We have guessed £35 per person per day, plus water, glass of wine, beer , taxis and spending money for items on market stalls, like silk ties etc. For both Beijing and Singapore. We thought we should probably take Yuan and Singapore Dollars and not rely on USD as in each place 3 days. Also where should we look for biggest savings to buy items out of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Many thanks
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2011 How much you spend on these items really varies depending on where you eat and what you purchase. When you are in Singapore, if you want to go to various market stalls visit little India and Chinatown. We actually found pricing for items from Chinatown to not be much different than say Hong Kong. In Singapore obtain the local currency. In Hong Kong we have been able to easily use USA dollars for all our purchases and/or credit cards but I would get local currency since you will also be in other areas of china. Keith Umm, the fact that they will be in other areas of China has nothing to do with whether they should get local currency in Hong Kong, since Hong Kong uses the Hong Kong dollar and not the Chinese yuan (renminbi). 4774Papa Posted September 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Be careful where you eat in China. When we were there, we were warned that the Chinese eat "anything with its back to the sun." That means any animal that doesn't walk upright like people. Black dog is a delicacy there. That is why you take care on eating in cheap restaurants or street vendors. sunloverstel Posted September 27, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted September 27, 2011 Thanks all. We are mainly vegetarian ie no meat but some fish. So hopefully no dog! But isit easy to tell what is in the food anyway??? Do restaurants understand if you say 'no meat'? Cheers
