Sydney dining

The dress code in Sydney is not suits and ties for restaurants with good food - even with one or more "stars" from critics. Singlets and thongs are out but smart casual is fine. There are some ultra fashionable "in" places where the door person may seem to be costing your designer label clothing before admitting you but as long as the jeans are Versace and the polo shirt is matching, you will be OK. ;)

Worry not and mothball the suit for formal events.

What type of dress code are we looking at if we like good food but don't want to have dress up to dine?
A "proper" shirt (no tie, short or long sleeves) and chinos - or anything similar - should be fine even for the very top restaurants in Sydney, by which I mean that you wouldn't even have reason to feel out of place, not that you'd be refused entry if you were a bit more casually dressed than that. And other than in the very top restaurants, any smart polo shirt would be no problem at all.
