DEL67 Posted April 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2005 We would like to go snorkeling while in nassau, but only want to go for half a day so we do not leave my husband for too long. Suggestions?
two cruisers 723 Posted April 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2005 We ended up booking a snorkeling tour to Athol Island direct through Carnival (we were on the Fantasy) because they had one that left as soon as we arrived (10:00) that only lasted 2-1/2 hours. That way, we had the rest of the day to spend on the beach. We booked it online before we cruised. And we were glad we did because it sold out on the ship. All of the independent vendors we looked into were at least twice that long and basically took up too much of the middle of the day to be able to do anything else worthwhile before or after the tour. There were some cool tours, however, that were all day tours that included a thriller powerboat ride, snorkeling, lunch and a beach that would have been worthwhile. But they left earlier than we got into port. They were expensive too. But would have been a lot of fun. Have you checked the available excursions on your ship? They really didn't cost any more from what I could see than the independents did. And the snorkeling was great at Athol Island.
Jeanne B Posted April 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2005 I think my DH, DD and I are going to do an afternoon snorkeling trip with Stuart Cove's when we go in October. They have both a morning and afternoon trip which include 2 or 3 stops. Their website is www.stuartcove.com.
laurasue Posted April 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2005 We're planning on doing Staurt Cove's as well, when we go in May. I have read great things about the excursion. I'm so excited! It also seems like a good value compared to the cruise line excursions we looked at. We'll post a full report when we get back :D
sportsterjohn Posted April 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2005 Stuart Coves trips are a blast, especially when you get to jump in with the sharks. The excursions are however about 6hrs long.
laurasue Posted April 7, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2005 sportsterjohn, does the 6 hours include the transfer times to/from the dock? On their website it looks as though the actual snorkeling trip itself is only 3 hours. If that is wrong, we'd like to know so we can plan our day accordingly :)
sportsterjohn Posted April 7, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2005 About 6hrs total time. They pick up at noon right in front of the customs bld. It is about a 30-45 min drive each way to the dive shop.
laurasue Posted April 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 7, 2005 Ah! Thanks! Yes, we were assuming the extra time for the transfers. Just didn't want the extra time to take us off guard. Thanks so much!
teresag Posted April 8, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2005 Does anyone know any half day snorkel excursions besides Stuart Coves as 6 hours is too long since our ship leaves at 3:00 pm the day we are planning on snorkeling?
