Anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Select Conv. Center??

I am booked there in June but I just read some reviews on Tripadvisor.com and they were not so great.. Just wondering if anyone has stayed there and can tell me how it really was. I have a large group booked there so it would be difficult to change the reservations at this time but I would love some input! Thanks

Even though tripadvisor is a great research to be fair there are only 9 reviews for this hotel. Overall it has a 4 out of 5. The last review is pretty bad - the one before was during Mardi Gras only 2 months earlier and they decribe it as clean. Sometimes I wonder if people get their hotel missed up - especially since there are so many Holiday Inn in the area. Plus the second reviewer is complaining about the hotel checkin procedure. I have 2 rooms reserved in July at this hotel - and I knew enough to find out if my in laws can check in with the rooms in my name. They can't so I changed the reservation and put their name on their room. Most of the other stuff was her own fault. I'm not defending the hotel - I haven't stayed there yet - but the reviews go from one extreme to the other within weeks of each other.

 

I think the second reviewer expected WAY to much. She must be very young and counts on her parents to handle everything when they are on vacation. The staff can't read your mind. If you need pamplets - then ask - if you need to know how close the parade is - Ask. Her review was very "lame". She blamed the housekeeping staff because she had a hangover and wanted them to clean the room on "HER" time schedule - 1:00 in the afternoon - PLEASE.

 

It appears there are problems with hard beds, slow shuttles, and slow service in the resturant. I guess we are fore warned.

 

We picked this hotel for it's location to the pier and the fact that for the price the parking was included. It's only one night. As long as I don't have things crawing on me - I'm fine. I don't plan on eating at the hotel. We may or may not use the shuttle. If the bed is hard I'll have 7 wonderful days on the ship to take my mind off of it.

 

I have found nice things said about the hotel on the boards. I don't think you have anything to worry about. If these things are a problem at least you know up front it is possible. We all have bad days and I don't expect the staff to be cheerful 24/7 - I try not to let other peoples attitudes ruin my good time.

I agree Cheryl as I usually wouldn't take one or two persons word for it and after all it is a Holiday Inn and not a five star hotel.. I can do just about anything for one night..My concern is that I have recommended this hotel to our group and we have 6 rooms reserved...so I feel the pressure is on me.. anyway, we chose it because it is near the pier and we can park there for the week. I am hoping there is someone out there that has stayed there and can give me their honest opinion...

I say let everyone know what you have found out and let them decide. I too do alot of planning for everyone in our group. So far everything has turned out good. But if something was to go wrong I'm sure they would be very understanding. I let them know up front - I have not stayed here, reviews are back and forth, all the info I have found. That way they are prepared if things don't go exactly right and they are a part of the decision - so HOW can they blame you. I think everything will be OK. As far as service - let them know this is NO and they are NOT quick. They are very laid back down there. They will just have to be patient.

 

I hope this makes you feel a little better. Just let them know that no matter what they will be on the ship the next day and their night at the HI will be a thing of the past, good, bad or ugly. Don't let ANYTHING ruin your time on the ship.

Hi guys...I have read a couple of posts about vehicles getting broken into on the lot of this Holiday Inn.....anyone have any info on this?? I am also going aboard the Conquest and think we need somewhere to stay the night before we leave. Pretty much everything seems to be booked around the riverside area for my dates...I am clutching at straws now but want to make sure (as reasonably as possible) that my vehicle will be safe!

This is where I am confused...If we stay at the Holiday Inn Select, do they have their own parking lot or do we park at the Fulton St. Garage. There is a thread somewhere on this board that talks about their car getting broken in to at the Fulton Street Garage.. Do you know where we will actually park??

There are a couple of different Hoiliday Inns. I can't be sure without seeing the post.

 

I will try and call the garage tomorrow - I just called and they are helping people - I think there's a ship back today. If you want to call yourself the number is 504-566-1010.

When you get the parking through Holiday Inn Select on Convention Center Blvd it only includes 7 nights parking - so you have to pay for the night you stay in the hotel. You can use their parking for the night you stay at the hotel - which is $23 a night or you can use the garage on Fulton Street that charges $12 a night. According to the man I spoke to at the garage (504.566.1010) it is right next door. The parking is covered (it is a parking structure - you can see it on the website) and there is someone there 24 hours a day - now he didn't say they patroled - but that SOMEONE was there.

 

You will not be able to come and go if you use the garage for the first night - not that you would at the Holiday Inn either - I didn't think to ask.

 

I do know from speaking to the folks at the Holiday Inn that their parking is limited.

 

The garage on Fulton street can not take big SUV's, RV's or vehicles with 4 wheel drive because of the clearance. So if you have a bigger vehicle you may want to call them and ask about clearance.

 

Funny thing is the hotel NEVER asked me what we would be driving. What if I showed up there expecting my 7 days of parking only to be told I couldn't use it :rolleyes: .

I would have never thought to check the clearance of the parking garage? I called the Holiday Inn, They new nothing about bthe clearance of the garage nor the $139 cruise special that included 7 days parking. They directed me to reservations who knew about the special but didn't know about the garage clearance (I wouldn't expect reservations to know that). I called the parking garage directly and they said I would have to be directed to their other parking garage if my vehicle didn't have 6 foot 7 inch clearance. I will have to measure my explorer now?? I'm not sure how their other garage affect the hotel pricing?? :confused:

The way it works is this.

 

The package includes 7 days parking. Since you are staying at the hotel one night you actullay need 8 days parking. You have to pay for the first day - whether you do it through the hotel or the garage is up to you. The hotel charges $23 and they don't guarante spaces as they are limited. Once they fill up you will be directed to go to the garage on Fulton Street. The parking there is $12. a day and is right next door. We are going to save the difference and pay to park in the garage. The morning of the cruise we are going to use one of the vehicles to park up the bags (we'll have 2 trucks) and take the luggage over. The other truck iwll stay parked and we will give them the certificate that the hotel will issue to us. When my DH & BIL bring the truck back then they will give them our certificate. The certificates will cover the 7 days we are on the cruise.

 

As I said - the parkingis not free while you stay at the hotel - so count on adding at least $12 more to the cost of the room. All the hotels seem to do this from what I have read.

Ok, Please forgive my denseness...I think I get it now, if the HI parking lot is full, they give you a voucher to park in the Fulton St. garage which is less for the night you are staying there. So...it makes more sense to just park in the Fulton garage to begin with if they are going to give you a voucher anyway.

Sort of....

 

You don't need a voucher for the one night - you are responsible for the first night parking - you just need to decide where you want to park. If the HI lot is full you will have no choice but to park at the garage on Fulton.

 

If you are staying at the HI they will give you a voucher that you will have to take over (not sure if you do this before or after the cruise - most likely before). The voucher will cover you for the 7 days you ar on the cruise.
