nlktx49 Posted January 28, 2012 #26 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We have used a local TA for all our cruises. She is wonderful, takes care of everything even getting our travel insurance for us. Gives us an OBC. We've even been on two cruises with her, we're drinking buddies! She makes it all so easy, we just tell her what cruise we want, and she takes it from there. Billzilla66 Posted January 28, 2012 #27 Share Posted January 28, 2012 My first cruise is coming up, I booked straight from Carnival's website. I got a really good deal, but after hearing all these posts about booking with TAs and getting OBC, wine, etc, maybe next time I'll look for a TA...maybe. <3 2 Cruise Posted January 28, 2012 #28 Share Posted January 28, 2012 I book through Carnival, My PVP is Audrey and I love her. I like dealing with the cruise line direct. If I were to plan a vacation that involed something other than just cruising, I would use a TA.
Celandine Posted January 28, 2012 #29 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We do the research ourselves, but we book through a TA (pretty easy since we walk in and tell them the ship, date and cabin category we want - they just have to process it) I was a TA for a while, but when I moved to teach overseas I 'temporarily resigned' - I'll go back to do it part time when I settle more permanently - most likely. Then I will go back to doing my own bookings but still - using a TA lol

ibcnusoon Posted January 28, 2012 #31 Share Posted January 28, 2012 I choose the week, then research extensively the various ships, itineraries, and cabins extensively. When I've narrowed it down to a particular cabin on a ship with an excellent itinerary during the week we can cruise, I call Carnival and book. :)
ibcnusoon Posted January 28, 2012 #32 Share Posted January 28, 2012 What's a PVP? Thanks. Personal Vacation Planner at Carnival, in other words, the person who answers the phone when you call Carnival to book.
MsTabbyKats Posted January 28, 2012 #33 Share Posted January 28, 2012 What's a PVP? Thanks. It's a Carnival "Personal Vacation Planner". I don't think they get a commission...but rather credit for each trip they book. I had one. I asked him to book something...he was home and couldn't do it from home. He drove to the office...but then I wasn't home when he called me. I described the location I wanted...he booked it...or so he thought. I had to fix it myself. Luckily the room I wanted was still available. So...I sit in front of my computer now...call...and book with whoever answers the phone. I don't use TAs. I like to deal directly in case of "an issue".
