Water taxi in Venice

There is no need to use a water taxi unless they have lots of luggage. They can buy a ticket for a vaporetto (think bus on the water) for about $10 each, take it to Piazzale Roma, and then walk to the port or take the People Mover for 1 euro each.

Exactly. The key here is amount of luggage. Vaporetto's are usually crowded and hardly room to stand. There isn't much grace given for folks with more than a single bag. Even then locals begrudge luggage. (If you can't carry it isn't really welcome.)

 

Ergo the water taxi and e100 fare :)
