Alaskanb Posted March 22, 2012 #26 Share Posted March 22, 2012 We'll have to keep fingers crossed that the knees behave! For some reason I can't justify the expense of trekking poles although several people have told me they would help (usually after they see me trip over rocks or roots and almost land on my face). Maybe I'll see if I can find a used set - if not I'll pack the stick we have. And maybe I'll come knocking on your door to borrow yours so I can have two! :D I find the best walking stick to be a large umbrella with a good tip--that's what we used in Costa Rica. I saw some poles really low priced in Marshalls last year and have regretted not getting them.

I did find a set of trekking poles for $35 that I think I can justify for hiking and they'll fit in the luggage. Some of the hikes we are contemplating may be a bit steep.
